Latest Version of the Unity Tuscany Demo (Source Code)?

I wonder what the status of the Tuscany demo (Unity version) is? Is it still being maintained?

AFAICT, the latest available version came with Oculus SDK 0.4.4. After that, only the OculusIntegration.unityPackage was updated, but not the Tuscany Demo (OculusUnityIntegrationTuscanyDemo.unityPackage) itself. Or am I just looking in the wrong place?

Anyone knows what's up, and where to find the latest version? Thanks!

  • The tuscany demo is no longer included. I guess if you want you can export a package from the old integration and import it into a newer one. Not sure why you'd want to, though, as the tuscany art was never impressive to me.

Okay, that explains it at least.

We'll go that path then, thanks, Cyber.

Well, for one, it's one of the most complete Unity samples for OVR integration out there. It's also traditionally been a starting point, and the first VR experience for many - sort of the "hello world" of VR. Personally, I have always liked the art, since the early days of DK1, and it's still the first VR experience (after the setup demo scene) I show to people who are new to VR.

But the more important reason is that we have been using it in the past for integrating and testing our own input hardware. We'd now like to move on to Unity 5, but found some issues when directly importing the old Tuscany packages (like the terrain not rendering etc.), and before trying to fix it, I thought it was worth asking if there's a more recent/updated package out there.

But anyway - okay, seems that you guys have phased out the Tuscany demo. But is there (or will there be) a replacement? A demo package of similar complexity, but compatible with Unity 5? Or is this simply obsolete, since Unity now natively supports VR, and there's no need for an Oculus-specific demo any more?
  • Yes, I forgot to mention that there may be graphical issue if you try to bring Tuscany to Unity 5. I tried it, and I was not able to get it to look right (lots of issues with the shaders and lightmapping for example, but maybe I did something wrong). I've been kind of pushing for a new demo to be made but it doesn't seem like a high priority right now (especially considering how much art is available on the Asset Store, it wouldn't be hard for developers to cobble something together themselves). Hope that helps.
