Modifying Hydra for positional tracking

I have my Hydras and my Rift set up. I'm wondering, how can I go about making some changes in Unity. For example, before Oculus integration, the Hydras joystick was used to turn left and right and move forward and backward, but after implementing the Oculus, the left and right on the joystick seem to turn the Hydra hand itself while the camera stays stationary.
The way I want it to work was basically, wherever you look is the direction you move, and the floating hand for the Hydra stays tied to this orientation. How can I go about doing this? I'm not sure how to actually modify the way the Rift works and wondering how best to go about it!
