Just as I am starting to get things going and a better understanding of unity - my trial ends.... :(

- sinothExplorerMan, I understand your pain. I really wish Oculus could work out a deal with Unity to get their integration officially supported and available in the free version. It's a slippery slope, though... once you get Rift support in free, next you will want Hydra / STEM / PrioVR. Then you'll realize you need render-to-texture to put UI on in-game objects. In the end, you really just have to buckle down and spend that $$$.
- PrelucidHonored GuestA limited trial period has never made sense. It's not like anyone's going to commercially release a game with pro features and "trial version" in the corner. They should really think about letting people mess around with it up to the point that they're ready to ship. But then again, they do have a monthly subscription version now for pro...
If I recall correctly, someone's previously figured out how to get it working with the free version. - CaliberMengskExplorerWith an extra program, you can use pipes to send the data that you need to unity, but it wouldn't let you use the control system that comes with the SDK as it's looking for the plugin (that pro is required for) as well, you won't get any distortion.
Using pipes like this would get it running on a basic level, but really it wouldn't be a great way to make the game.
As stated above, you can get the subscription for something like $75 a month (may have been raised a little since the promotion of it.) which equates to $900 a year. Honestly, that's not that bad since they generally release a new version every year and a half or 2. - FioreHonored GuestIf you are a teacher or student, you can get the pro version for half price.

 - virrorExplorerWell, you can always continue to work on the game with the free version while you save the money or wait for Unity to move Rift support to the free version ; )
- CubaneHonored GuestI feel your pain too. I went to do some bug fixing for the vrjam entry and my trial had expired :(
- grimreaperptHonored GuestWhat do you guys mean as 125 day trial? On the unity website it says it's only a 30-day trial. I'm asking this question because I firstly tried yesterday to develop for the Oculus, imported the assets, and nothing was working. Then I read the .pdf and realized that I need the 4.2 pro version :\
I currently have the 4.1 pro, but it doesn't work I guess. - virrorExplorerIf you have 4.1 you can just upgrade to 4.2, just go to their website and download the new version.
Everyone that buys the Oculus Rift gets a free 125 day pro trial instead of the standard 30. - sirdeyeHonored GuestSo has there been any sign that there will be a (VERY) cheap version of Unity for the Rift, or should I focus on learning Unreal? I've held off learning about Unity until I can find out if it will even be affordable.
