Problem with sound not coming from headphones on CV1
Hi
This is a difficult problem for me to solve or even trouble shoot as I don't have a CV1. Basically I have had reports that the sound isn't coming out of the Oculus headphones
Extract from bug report.
"Oh hey, so one thing I noticed w/ the CV1 is that it doesn't seem to switch audio properly (plays out of default device)."
It works fine on the DK2. Has anyone else had problems like this? A bit of a shot in the dark really without a CV1 to test on.
My setup:
Windows 7
Unity 5.40b10 (patched)
Video plugin AVpro for Windows (might be possible suspect)
Any ideas anyone? My program is Whirligig video player www.whirligig.xyz You can download it for free and test it from my site. If anyone here has a CV1 and can get it working with the sound please let me know so I can pass the information onto other users.
Fingers crossed people can help me.
All the best
Phil

- vrdavebOculus StaffSince the app runs on CV1, I assume you're using OVRPlugin 1.3.0. Audio redirection is expected to work with that version and Unity 5.4.0b10. A build and logs would help. Is AVPro providing all of the sound in the app? If so, and if it's using an audio back-end other than Unity's (such as Windows Media Foundation), changes to it may be needed to redirect sound to the Rift.
- philedayMemberThanks thats great information. I haven't updated the OVRplugin but I still think the AVpro plugin will be a problem. All a bit difficult to test without a CV1. I've ordered one but not getting it for a while and my app is still under review in the app store (submitted it on december the 22nd, grrr).
I'll add the latest OVR plugin to the project and go from there. Is there anyway to test this without the CV1? Either way I'll release it and see what the Oculus community come back with. :)
Thanks for the info.
Phil - philedayMemberOk
I've updated the the OVR Plugin in the build. In all truthfulness I had OVR Plugin in the build before (earlier version) but the only had it in so I could detect if the Oculus health and safety warning had gone. Everything else is done with the Unity3d Built in VR. So I've updated it and patched Unity (which I'd previously done) and now have a build. I can't however test it.
Here is a link to a development build of my program with a test video in it if anyone with a CV1 could test it that would be great.

I have a feeling it's going to take a bit more to get the sound working with this though. Is there other way of getting the computer sound through the Oculus headphones? Or is it just a case they'll have to wear anther pair of headphones plugged into the pc sound? - NostalgicBearExplorerHey there,
Did you manage to get any feedback as to whether or not it now works for you on the CV1? I'm in the exact same boat as you in that I dont have a CV1 to test on, but a guy on Reddit tested it for me and said that there was no sound working. I have the latest version of Unity 5.3.4p1 along with the latest OVRPlugin, but he said the sound didnt work on CV1, but did on DK2. If you got it sorted, any info would be appreciated :) So tricky to these things without a headset. - philedayMemberNo, no feedback yet. Are you using AVpro for windows or any different audio setup to the Unity's one? If it's related to AV pro maybe we could pester the developers of that plugin. They used to be quite quiet but they seemed to of recently burst into life.
- philedayMemberI've managed to get some feeback from a person with a CV1 and it appears to not be working. I will continue my investigations. :)
- vrdavebOculus StaffYou are using 5.4.0b10, which doesn't include audio redirection support. Please use 5.3.3p3 or newer. There doesn't seem to be a 5.4.0 beta available yet that includes audio redirection. I would expect one in the next week or two.
- ScawenHeroic ExplorerI don't know if this will help you as I don't know the library you are using. I am using DirectSound and just noticed this is in the Unity section, which I do not use, so I'm not sure I should even reply! :D To get the sound to come out of the CV1 speakers, I had to call the function ovr_GetAudioDeviceOutGuid (found in OVR_CAPI_Audio.h) and use the resulting GUID instead of NULL when initialising DirectSound.
- AnonymousHey Phil, I tested the test build with my CV1. I could see the video Vortex and the mechanical device, but no audio whatsoever.
- AnonymousActually, update! I have been able to make audio work with the current version that is online. I had to unplug Oculus USB and plug back in, then tweak default device in playback (windows > volume), and now I do hear the sound in the speaker. False alarm!
