Recording 360 video in engine

So this isnt something directly related to using the rift in realtime with unity, but i was wondering if anyone had a method for capturing 360 video in unity for use with youtube's 360 playback option?

  • Thanks orcuncmo, that looks like it'l do exactly what i need!
  • I'm jealous of this dev team. They made what I thought would be extremely challenging and profitable for VR. This is seriously really cool. I'm looking forward to trailers running at full settings of Unit 5 on a good computer, but viewing them on my Gear VR. This will be huge.

Now, someone needs to make the "gametrailers.com" app for Gear VR and have exclusive 360 videos just for games @ full quality. I'd love to see someone make this for Unreal then output a demo like Surge (from oculus share DK2) for the Gear VR as a 360 video. Seems totally possible.
  • Woah! I am going to have to try and e-mail the dev for Surge, it looks like someone made a 360 exporter for unreal as well. There are just way too many smart people working on dev. All of the good ideas are getting eaten up.

Here's a forum post talking the unreal engine export:

This has huge potential to demo games for the full retail oculus with the gear VR units. You could say: "wait till you add head translation and high resolution to this, your mind will be blown!"

Alternatively, you could use the retail version of the oculus with a super high def export from a crazy computer rig and run it off of a laptop to setup kiosk booths or go mobile with it. The trailer potential for this is super huge.
