So now that SDK-side distortion is possible, what does that mean for Unity Free support?
The most problematic obstacle for Free was the lack of image effects for the barrel distortion. With the distortion pushed to the SDK this issue seems to be gone.
That would only leave the lacking support for c++ plugins, which could be remedied by a c# wrapper. Can anyone with more insight on the matter comment on that?

- statichsHonored GuestI'm assuming that the SDK 0.4 needs to access the rift hardware still.
"The fact is, Unity Free lacks some of the features that Rift support requires, like shaders for optical distortion, access to the hardware, and sensor data." - http://www.roadtovr.com/unity-free-not-to-support-oculus-rift-palmer-luckey-responds/ - AnonymousThe hardware access and sensor data are only limited by the fact they are only available as a c++ plugin right now. That is why a wrapper should solve the problem for Unity Free, or am i mistaken?
- AnonymousBumping this in the hopes that in the DK2 induced activity someone stumbles in here and has something interesting to say on the topic.
Really seems like nobody cares anymore about free, am i the only one who has two devkits and no unity pro? - MatthewsreHonored GuestI have a dev kit and my unity pro trial just ran out :(
I came here checking to see if Unity 4.6 would have new features to allow oculus dev in Free.
I'm a fulltime dev (non-game), just not ready to dump in the investment for an indie hobby game (I did buy UnityVS before MS bought them though). I'll keep building it out, just won't be able to see what it looks like from the OVRcamera (which is pretty crucial). I wish the DK2 came with the 4 month trial, we need more content! The biggest drive I have to work on this game is purely that there is a lack of content currently available.
Really just chiming in to let you know you are not alone, lets hope some announcement/partnership happens with Unity 4.6 or 5.x (I'd even settle for discount vouchers/promos) :) - FaiHonored Guesthttp://stereoarts.jp/OVRAgent_0.4.1_20140823.zip
It is a package for use with the Unity Free(Standard) Oculus SDK for Unity.
Modified from Oculus SDK for Unity 0.4.1. - korinVRExpert ProtegeI suggest voting for this. It is currently 489 votes and 17th most voted.
Unity Feedback - Granular(IOS-like) license for Oculus Rift development

I heard a rumor there is a negotiation between Unity Technologies and Oculus VR regarding this.
Without reasonable Rift support, many developers will switch to Unreal Engine... - ArowxExplorerGreat points I concur, hopefully as Unity 5 has a modular build/update system and will hopefully have improved performance (multi-threaded core) and features (Physically Based Shaders/Improved Physics Engine) it should definitely also include an Oculus Rift/VR Mode.
