Unity 5.1.0f3 suddenly stopped working with rift

All afternoon, Unity game testing (within unity) + rift worked great: oculus camera turned on, 3D stereo image, etc. However, when I tried to build the .exe for the first time, the result wasn't VR: no stereo image, no head tracking (oculus camera doesn't turn on.)

Then I went back to the Unity editor, and the in-editor game was no longer displaying on the rift. (Nothing on goggles, camera didn't turn on.)

Rebooted my PC and still, unity editor now lost its ability to talk to the rift. I've double-checked to make sure project settings : player: show stereo rendering (yes) and virtual reality supported (yes).

Anyone else have this happen? Everything was working so well, but now it's gone!

PS: rift still works fine when running demo apps and such, so the problem is limited to using unity.

I think I fixed this for myself.
I went back to project settings : player
and unchecked VR, then re-checked VR.

I find it interesting that a reboot did not fix the problem. It's like the project lost some assets and they needed to be recreated...
  • When this happens, can you look in the console and see if there are errors?

I think I've seen this happen on my machine, but usually a restart of both Unity and the Oculus service will fix it.
  • I have a similar problem, but the difference is that when I uncheck/check the VR box, when it asks to reload the interface, everything freezes. I restart Unity after the crash and it works fine. But this process happens every time that I make a new project
