Unity sometimes doesnt track controller position in editor

Sometimes Unity stops tracking the controllers position in the editor when the headset is not on.
It always keeps tracking rotation, but stops tracking position until I put the headset back on or put a peice of paper over the sensor on the headset so it thinks ive put it on. I would understand if it never tracked controllers without hte headset on but since it sometimes does Im wondering if theres a bug or setting I can work out to make it work all the time.

Is there any way to make it continue tracking the controllers even when the headset is not on, does anyone know why it sometimes stops, does anyone else have this issue? I dont like putting the headset on when im just testing a little bit of code here and there especially when im just working ui stuff.

Im using Unity 5.6.3f1 and the OVRCameraRig prefab

  • unfortunately you need to have the headset on for controllers to track and play haptics. Orientation will still work but position needs the headset to be on
