You should probably use motors instead of trying to torque the rigid bodies yourself. The physics solver is not aware of any constraints between rigid bodies when you simply parent them (how is it supposed to know how the finger is allowed to bend?), so the collision response will not propogate up the chain. You need to configure some kind of joint. There are a lot of options there, including different types of motors.
