wide Field of view

If i change the field of view of the Right and left camera in the game , for example, set it to 200 will this cause some motion sickness to the gamer?

    Let's find out :)
Test subject one reporting for service.
  • it seems the feild of view is best around 110 degrees thats what its recommended to be set in games like Half Life 2 and Skyrim. that seems just about right for me. anything much higher and youll get a bit of tunnel vision.
  • In general, the FOV should be set to the physical value. Although there is some leeway, you still want to keep it around 100 degrees. 200 is way too much.

I just tried it at 350... wow it's trippy. It's a bit like being drunk and would make a good 'drunk' or 'drugged' effect
  • You have to be < 180 degree with a normal projection matrix, anything larger needs special tricks or raytracing. You can go a bit higher, experiments indicated that 10-20 degree are fine (note, that was tested with HMDs with way smaller FoVs: http://renderingpipeline.com/2012/10/thoughts-about-the-field-of-view-on-hmds/ ).
Just tested 150 degree vertical FoV and it does feel strange and I assume it will result in stronger motion sickness quite soon.

As the default I would always recommend the HMDs native FoV.
