With Unreal Engine 4 now free...

With Unreal Engine 4 now free, who would want to develop in Unity Free? I started a project in Unity Free that I will complete in Unity Free, but I'm wishing I had started it in UE4 now.

Given today's news, I think most would agree that:
Unreal Engine 4 > Unity Free

But Unity Pro vs. UE4...there may be some reasons to go with one over the other. Maybe the 5% of revenue that UE4 will still take? Although I'm developing in academia, so I'm not developing for sale.

  • I still seems like Unity is easier for experimenting (as changing variables at run-time seems to work better) but Unreal is a pretty compelling package. Especially for free, I imagine many developers would go that route.
