Adding Rift support to already released UDK games?

Seeing as UDK games have rather homogenous backends and are more amenable to editing than most engines, is it possible to get an already released UDK game to work with the Rift version?

There's a great UDK horror game called Eleusis that is like a much more fleshed out Alone in the Rift that would benefit from this.

  • I think it should be rather easy for alot of the FPS games. I've been checking the epic games forums to see what the devs there are saying about it. I'd love to just implement some easy tool to access the thousands of fantastic environments already built in UDK.
  • Currently those games need to be ported to the Oculus version of the UDK.

You could try looking into a driver that runs in the background and lets you use existing games with the Oculus. But I haven't tested or looked into any. These guys seems to be advertising such a thing: http://vire.io/.

Seems like a few on the forums here have used it, so have a little read of others experience before installing it.
  • Other than shifting to the UDK version with Oculus Rift support, it should not be too hard. However, I believe the Simplygon license is not active in the Oculus Rift version of UDK. It may also affect SpeedTree as well.

The most common issues relate to player height and speed, as well as collision and body animations, in addition to the UI and controls. :D
