[Gear VR] 3D spatialized sound with UE 4.11 ?

I see "Updated OVR Audio SDK" in the release notes for 4.11, but anything that mentions 3D spatialization pertains to PC/XB1/PS4.

Any idea if UE 4.11 got spatialization working on Gear VR ?

If 4.11 doesn't support that, wouldn't it be in Oculus' interest to poke Epic to resolve this asap ?

  • UE 4.11.0 uses the Oculus Spatializer, but only on PC. And it only uses the HRTF aspect of the SDK - environment modeling has not been integrated yet. Many teams opt to use Wwise instead of UE4's built-in audio system to work around limitations like this. We are working with Epic on better built-in spatializer support that extends to Android and also includes environment modeling. Unfortunately, it's hard to provide an ETA at this point, but it is a fairly high priority for us.
  • I see. Thanks for letting us know. Looking forward to having native integration with Audio SDK
  • So, I looked around and it seems that integrating Wwise into UE4 is not a trivial task. While Wwise has free version for free apps and some limited option for commercial apps, the integration aspect is a nightmare :/

Is there a chance UE4 4.12 will have positional sound support for Gear VR ?
