[Gear VR] cheapest (performance wise) way to render a portal ?

I am wondering about rendering portals (like seen in Prey or Portal; one per view; no portal-inside-portal thing) in my project. I was told it will be prohibitively expensive. I am wondering if Oculus folks have a different perspective on how to go about it without having noticeable performance loss. Is such thing even possible ? If so, how ?!

Thanks

  • Talked to some folks who actually did this kind of thing. They said it's a no-go for desktop, not to mention mobile and mobile VR. Apparently UE4 is quite heavy and can't match performance of renderers used in Prey and Portal games. Pretty sad :/

I wish Oculus had they own renderer for UE4, super lightweight and optimized for Gear VR.
