Getting a steady 37 FPS on all projects
Hi I have just started using UE4 and I've been working on a few projects over the last few weeks however whenever I test my project in the DK2 I get a steady 37 FPS. It nevers goes above it.
I even tried the default 1st person shooter template and I am getting the exact same results. I have a GTX 960 which runs unreal demos that I have downloaded without any problem.
I'm wondering if I have missed something simple. Is there a setting I need to adjust to get it up to 75FPS? I am using 4.8.

- cyberealityGrand ChampionThe Oculus SDK locks V-Sync (on DK2) to 75Hz. If you are running slightly below this performance, it will drop to 37.5fps, which is what you are seeing. It basically means performance is too low.
- tcla75Honored GuestDo you mean the performance of my computer is too low? I have a GTX 960. if that's the case I can live with that as long as the demo I release can be enjoyed jitter free by other users.
- cyberealityGrand ChampionYes, it could just be that the 960 does not have the performance for your particular application. However, that's not to say you can't optimize it to work. There are a bunch of things you can do to increase performance. Turning off effects will help (especially screen-space reflections, and other effects like ambient occlusion). On the Oculus side, you can reduce the screen percentage, which is basically the buffer used to render the eyes (which does not have to be the same as the display resolution). You can turn down or turn off shadows. See if any of that will help.
- tcla75Honored GuestI've looked further online and it seems that this is a problem with the latest builds of unreal 4.6 and above and the latest oculus runtimes. People who are using a GTX 980 are having this problem too. I thought it was strange that I was getting a steady 37fps even in a scene with no textures effects or materials but other UE demos that I downloaded in the past worked perfectly on even epic settings. Has anyone here being able to find a workaround for the bug in the latest version of UE?
- cyberealityGrand ChampionI just loaded up the latest UE 4.8.1 w/ the default first-person project and I am getting a solid 75fps all the way through. I'm using a GTX 970.
- tcla75Honored GuestCan you check out my project I'm working on at the moment and let me know if you are still getting 75 FPS. Its a star trek demo so a bonus if you are a trekkie :) if you can't get 75 fps then something is wrong in my setup and I need to do some major tweeking.

- cyberealityGrand ChampionIt runs around 50fps on my machine, and looks choppy and juddery on the Rift. Seems like a very simple scene, so I'm not sure why performance is so low on my machine (GTX 970). You may want to make sure the model is optimized and there is nothing crazy going on with the textures.
- tcla75Honored GuestHi cyber thanks for taking the time to check it out. I found out its actually the lighting settings and effects I have set up in the game thats causing the issue. Did a few fixes and its improved the frame rate....

still got a bit of work to optimise it for most systems but I'm getting there.
I guess when you are frustrated and don't know why something is going wrong its easier to blame the tools rather than yourself. Thats the best lesson I have learned from this. - cyberealityGrand ChampionYes, I'm getting 75fps on this new build.
