UE4 - Poor performance with dynamic shadow
I got my DK2 for a week now and am very happy with the new benchmark by Oculus. I think Unreal Engine 4 got a great potential with the rift. This combination will be my next project.
Initialy the performance is rather poor and after using the Rift template 0.3 I figured out that dynamic shadows (Shadow Quality) got an exceptional negative influence on the performance and framerate. I have to disable the shadows completely to play without any judder.
Can this be fixed or is this still driver related... ?
Running Unreal Engine 4.4.1 (preview) with Core-Quad 2.66Ghz with GTX780

- jzer0Honored GuestI can also confirm this, was seeing a lot of judder building some demos such as the sci fi hallway and the mountain hang gliding. I went through and disabled dynamic shadows in the hallway demo and reduced screen percentage to 75 (command hmd sp 75) to get smooth tracking. UE4 documentation says that dynamic shadows have the most impact on performance, but my rig is pretty juiced:
core i7 4960 extreme 3.6 oc to 4ghz (liquid cooled)
32gb gskill trident ram oc to 1.4ghz
nvidia gtx titan
running the mountain hang glider without stereo with extreme build settings I never drop below 60fps, but in stereo with sp at 100 i barely get 30. if i drop to 75 it is a little smoother but still judder is enough to cause motion sickness. should we be expecting that much of a performance impact when run in stereo? half fps? or is this just that we should be waiting for the official UE4 build with the latest rift sdk?
*** please note I am building these with the latest OVR UE4 branch from viewtopic.php?f=60&t=12325&start=100 ***
*** this also is affecting all display methods when running the standalone game without the UE4 editor running, direct-to-rift as well as extended mode with rift set as the primary display, only display to the rift***
