UE4 not an ideal engine for VR... yet (1.3)

I'm currently head deep into a project in UE4, there is currently no way to rotate the view, so your view stays facing forward despite where you look, unless you are making a paralysis or vomit simulator you might want to stick with Unity for a few weeks.

The node I used to counter this well known and documented bug has been removed, and there is no current way to rotate the view in VR (via the headset).

  • This is just plain wrong. Maybe you encountered an issue, but saying this won't help you. Unreal works great for VR dev.

That being said, explain your problem and I'll be glad to lend an hand if possible.
  • Unreal is great for VR and quite a few launch titles use it :)

Posting video / screenshots along the way would be very helpful.

I believe he's referring to this:

Btw, this "feature" exists since 4.3 or so...
  • Not sure what you mean by "no way to rotate the view".
I've been able to rotate the view since the UE4 beta.
I do remember there was a bug in which the view was locked to 0,0,0 at spawn.
Is that what you are referring too?
  • Also, I should note that the official Unreal 4.11.1 supports the consumer headset and 1.3.

I can confirm very good results with the Rift (CV1) with OVRRuntime 1.3 under Unreal 4.11.1, in 4.11 (base) I was unable to get the Rift working but the DK2 seemed fine.
