Unreal 4Crashes instantly when Oculus SDK is installed
Seeing that no one else is having an issue here, I assume that something is horribly off with my machine, but I'd absolutely love any guidance that you can provide:
I've been using Unreal 4 (currently 4.5) stably through production for the past several months. This sunday, however, I installed all of my drivers and tools for the new Oculus (sdk 4.3). Oculus demos and tools run fine, but when I open Unreal, in either epic's build or my own packaged build, I crash 100% through a wide variety of actions, the easiest being to simply mouse over the generic browser.
This is what I'm prompted with:
Header: CrashReportClient.exe - Entry Point Not Found
Body: The procedure entry point SetCheckUserInterruptShared could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dbgeng.dll.
As I understand it, this is actually telling me that Unreal's crash report is failing because of this dbgeng.dll error, not indicating in anyway what is actually causing my crash. Either way, I can't move forward.
I've tried every other link I could find of CrashReportClient.exe or dbgeng.dll in Unreal's answerhub, to no avail. I'm still waiting on answers from their side, but the point that leads me here is this:
I wasn't crashing before trying to install the Oculus. Even my own local build of Unreal was working fine. But since the install, I can't run anything in Unreal.
Uninstalling all of the oculus drivers and disconnecting the oculus does make the engine more stable, but only to the extent that I could work for about 5 minutes without crashing, as long as I don't try to bake, build, or run in an external window.
I've tried every other recommended solution I could find online - registry cleaners, removing and re-installing all related software, including Unreal and Oculus, updating my OS, and am stopping just short of reformatting now as I post this. (I'll probably reformat and try again once I press post.
Like I said, I've thrown this question up in the Unreal Answerhub as well, but I'd love any further guidance you can provide as to a way to fix this, or a way to prevent this once I'm on the other side of my reformat and try to install unreal and the oculus again.
Thanks! Keith
Ps. I'm on Windows 8.1, on an SSD with a GeForce GTX 680.

- kguerretteHonored GuestAny chance I can bump this for a response? I'm dead in the water at the moment with no luck in the Unreal Forums either.
- cyberealityGrand ChampionLet me see if I can get any additional information regarding this issue.
- artyom17Expert ProtegeBy saying 'installed 4.3 SDK' - this means what exaclty? You just installed runtime, right? Do you use unmodified 4.5 UE4 out of Epic's Perforce/github (so, you don't have our integration with 0.4.3 SDK)? Can you build UE4 and run from VS to see where it is crashing (or most likely asserting)?
- kguerretteHonored GuestRight, sorry for the lack of clarity (and delayed response). If it helps, I'm coming at this from the perspective of an artist.
Yes, I'd only installed the 4.3 runtime components (mis-stated as SDK). I was using both a local build of code (with our local modifications), and Epic's build of 4.5 from the launcher - I hadn't thought of grabbing their code directly from github.
This wasn't necessarily a helpful step for figuring out the problem directly, but I went ahead and reformatted my machine, re-installed everything, and so far, have had no further issues.
I really appreciate the responses. I think we can call this closed for now.
Thanks!
Keith - artyom17Expert ProtegeThis is a bit extreme way to solve issues, but I glad it worked for you :)
