Unreal Engine 4.7 Preview 2 - VR Preview Framerate
Hi Guys,
I am really loving the "Play > VR Preview" button. Amazing how fast you can pop into your level and back into your editor!
That said, I cannot figure out why this mode is locked at 60 frames per second. When I "Play > Standalone Game" and press alt+enter to get into the DK2, I get a solid 75 frames per second. But, with "Play > VR Preview", it is always 60.
Is there a setting I can toggle somewhere to bump this up?
Thanks!
EDIT: The cause of this problem was related to the editing viewport's default maximum framerate of 60FPS. To fix, you need to open a console by typing "~" (tilda) from within your editing viewport. Then, type this: "t.MaxFPS 200'" and hit <enter>. This will allow all of your viewports to run at a framerate higher than the default 60; including the VR Preview.

- artyom17Expert ProtegeBecause you are in Extend mode. At the moment, full 75 fps in Editor is supported only in Direct mode, since Unreal Editor doesn't allow to switch into 'real fullscreen' mode (and this limitation is not applicable for Direct mode).
EDIT: in addition, as we found out, this is what limits FPS in the editor (and VR Preview in Direct mode): 't.MaxFPS 60'. Set it to something high, like 200 and forget about it. - andrewtekMember

I am not in Extended mode. I only use Direct Mode. - artyom17Expert ProtegeHmm... In this case it is weird. Do you mind to post screenshots of VR Preview and Standalone game with 'stat fps' on?
- artyom17Expert ProtegeAnd where are you getting your UE4 from? Github, Perforce? Are you using binaries or building on your own?
- andrewtekMemberThanks for your responses artyom17!

Don't mind at all. I created a basic sample scene with a single light and floor.
Here it is in VR Preview, the Framerate is stuck at 60FPS.
Here it is as standalone, with alt+enter."artyom17" wrote:

I got UE4.7.0 Preview 2 directly from the launcher by selecting "Add Engine".
I was avoiding the preview downloads since they are not "official", but when I saw this video and they mentioned the VR Preview feature... I had to try it out.

Have you installed the latest Oculus Runtime 0.4.4 btw? https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/
Also found where they talk about VR Preview, it is around 18:20. Cool. They did not mention who implemented that exactly, though :) - andrewtekMember

Was that you artyom17? Very cool!
Edit: Yes, I am running SDK 0.4.4. I installed it as soon as it became available. - artyom17Expert ProtegeYep, that was me :) Otherwise, I'd send you to Epic's forum :)
Well, I've just tried the 4.7 preview2 from the launcher and it also works as expected....75 fps. Weird. Do you actually see an image in the Rift? Try to toggle vsync by entering the console commands 'hmd vsync off' and then 'hmd vsync on'.
How many monitors do you have? Hopefully, you don't have multiple Rifts connected :)
Also, have a look into a log file (after you used VR Preview mode and closed the editor). The log file can be found in your project directory, Saved/Logs subdir. Find all the lines with 'LogHMD:' substring and post here (shouldn't be too many of those). - andrewtekMember

Thanks for your contribution. I totally see this as a useful time saver."artyom17" wrote:

Yes. I see the world just fine in the Rift, but it is at 60 FPS."artyom17" wrote:

After doing this, the framewrate was unchanged. Stuck at 60 FPS. Almost like a setting is forcing 60FPS."artyom17" wrote:

Two monitors plus one Rift."artyom17" wrote:
