Unreal VR Project wtih JAVA based backend, API options?

Hi all,

We are a small team and currently working on our first VR project and looking for some solutions on how we could connect our backend which will be JAVA based with the Unreal Engine. I am relatively new to Unreal and I am looking for some guidelines choosing an API for this.
