If you aren't going to fix the PCVR link cables let us downgrade the link app version

its genuinely so annoying to dump all this money into a PC, a VR headset and a good quality link cable for said headset only for the company you bought the headset from REQUIRE you use their **bleep**ty app, which as a side note isnt even needed to feed your PC data, see the quest killer extension, and then to top it all off, the app doesnt even want to work 90% of the time, and THEN when it does want to work, it only works for 15 minutes before freezing entirely

and since i know that copy/paste 'we want to fix this' response is coming

YES meta, my PC can handle vr, it has done for the past 3 years until recent, i have a 4070 super, ryzen 5 5600x, 32gigs of kingston fury and a 2tb ssd

YES meta, ive uninstalled the link app and reinstalled it

NO meta, i, and tens of thousands of others didn't experience link issues pre-v76

YES meta, its a quest 2, not that it matters as it read info all the same no matter which headset is being used and many on the 3 and 3s have also reported this, to deaf ears apparently

Let us downgrade our link app version so we can actually use the device we bought from you, its not a paperweight and it shouldn't be treated as one by YOU,  stop throwing us through this dumb loop of useless update after useless update that changes 1 line of code every 4 days and give us something meaningful

  • Hi, my quest 3s had an update a couple of days ago now my link cable won't connect and have tried everything from re-intstalling win 10 and meta. I can only run steam games through air-link now. My pc does recognise the usb is connected soo nothing wrong with cable. I hope there is a fix to this soon.

Hi there KidDexo, we came across your post and wanted to offer some assistance.

We're aware of a problem affecting headsets on version v.79 when paired with the Meta Quest PC app on version v.81. Please be assured that we are actively working to resolve this.

You can fix this by updating your Meta Quest Link app to version v.81 via the Public Test Channel. There is no longer a limit on PTC enrollment. To do this, please follow these steps:

Steps to Enable Public Test Channel

    1. Open the Meta Quest Link app on your PC device.
    2. Navigate to the Settings menu.
    3. Select the Beta tab from the settings options.
    4. Locate the Public Test Channel toggle switch.
    5. Toggle the switch to the on position to enable receiving future Public Test Channel releases.

To Verify you have successfully updated to our Public Test Channel:

    1. Once you have toggled the Public Test Channel toggle, you should be prompted to update your Meta Horizon PC App
    2. If no prompt is shown, go to Library > Select the Updates tab and check for a pending update notification
    3. To ensure you are on the correct version select the General tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will see “Meta Horizon Link App Version 81.X.X.XXX.XXX (81.0.0.930.254)

NOTE: Once v81 is fully released you may opt out of PTC, by going through steps 1-5 again, this time toggling off the “Public Test Channel” toggle.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions or queries, please don't hesitate to reach out to our wonderful Customer Support team. They'd be more than happy to help!

Let's get you back into the Metaverse!

Post edited Oct 27 to reflect that it is the Link app that should be updated and not the headset.

this did nothing for me, at most i noticed it delayed the freeze by about 20 minutes

  • I finally got the link cable to work -- i used the meta horizon app on my phone click on settings top left - select devices - select your headset -  select headset settings -select developer mode - and turn ON. Also go to advanced settings and turn off auto upload crash reports and public test channel.  I hope it works for you. This is after V81.0.

  • I am having a similar problem to Mzqrs2 on my Quest 3, I plug in my link cable and it simply won't recognise the connection between the headset and the PC. I reinstalled the Meta Quest Link app on the PC and it worked again, then an update notification comes up, the app updates and it doesn't connect anymore. This appears to be because when the app is first installed it is on version v.81, then after the update it reverts to v.79, whereas the headset appears to have installed v.81 on the 22nd of October, which is when the trouble began. I wouldn't have any issues if the Meta Quest Link app would just stay on v.81 but it automatically "updates" on Windows startup to v.79 with no way of stopping it.

Currently, the only solution is to uninstall and reinstall the app every day, and hit "snooze for 4 hours" on the update. But it will ultimately install no matter what you do.

Hey there MrToppins, thanks for reaching out.

We completely understand that this is not an ideal situation.

Could we kindly ask you to try the steps that we previously suggested earlier in the thread?

Thanks for the reply. I did follow those steps and it didn't help. This is because, as I already said, the headset is already on v.81, it's the meta quest link app on the pc that is reverting to v.79, that's what causes the break. What would help is if there a way of disabling updates aside from "snooze for 4 hours" so that it remains on Meta Quest Link app version 81.0.0.930.254?

Ironically, there are also users complaining that their Link USB connections no longer work because their Meta Quest Link app was downgraded from v81 to v79 😒.

On my laptop, something strange happened several times today (due to multiple uninstallations and installations), which I could not observe on the PC: Initially, the Meta Quest Link app was installed as V81. The USB-C connection worked immediately (which also matches the Meta Horizon OS version on the Quest 3 itself). Shortly afterward, the Meta Quest Link app on the PC wanted to update and then "updated" backwards to V79. After that, the USB-C connection, of course, no longer worked

I think I may have solved it now. I needed to opt in to the public test channel on the pc Meta Quest Link App as well as the headset/mobile app. Now the pc app doesn't revert when prompted to upgrade.

      For those interested:

PC Meta Quest Link App > Settings > Beta > Public Test Channel (toggle) > Restart Quest Link > allow it to upgrade when prompted
