Meta quest link app cant connect to Link server:

Hi there I'm messaging here as well as the email chain(s) i have with support isn't going anywhere and hopping to get some other ideas/info about how to fix or if i have to wait. So like two weeks ago my meta quest link app worked just fine (well as fine as the app normally works) and then randomly this last weekend the application "checked status" and then couldn't connect to the link server nor when it tried to repair. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times (even once about 20 minutes before this post because i read on a forum post from an employee that the problem was fixed). I tried reinstalling windows and graphics drivers, I have tried turning off my anti-virus and firewall and nothing has worked. The one thing I noticed is that OVRserver_x64.exe wont run. It might run for a second or two but it WILL NOT run and I am convinced that this exe is what is necessary for the application to work but nothing I do (including running as admin) can get it to work. I keep getting asked by support to "try installing on a different PC" so im now here looking for different answers. The only change i've seen since that employee claimed the problem was fixed was that the install didnt have any problems, but the application still wont run as it needs "to check status". Ignoring my confusion over needing to connect to a server to begin with given the whole point of the application is just to connect to your head set thru a cable or wifi. I just want to be able to use it again XD
Using

Windows 11
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

Radeon RX7600XT 16 GB

  • i sorted it out explanation about what happened cause i dont think this will help others, i ran an anti-virus software (not windows defender) and i think it **bleep**ed up/corrupted my AMD drivers. I thought i did a full cleanup using AMD cleanup utility last week, turns out it didnt go through. So i've also been dealing with graphics setting being screwy. I finally went through with another attempt at complete reinstall of AMD drivers after AMD kept failing to install previous driver versions. I then tried reinstalling meta link and it worked first try

  • If the truth of the matter is that this is a bug i gotta wait out for the meta software peeps to fix than so be it but i'd rather hear that from support/an employee then get the run around and told to do the same few sets of cookie cutter troubleshooting steps. I've sent them diagnostic logs like 4-5 times and they keep saying they arent getting what they are looking for

  • this is the error which ig is prob the one causing it to shut off when i try to manually run OVRServer_x64

Chargeterror Abdallah.hilali this seems to be an emerging bug with Link, a number of other people have reported similar issues in the past few days. The common factor is not being able to connect to the Link service. You are correct that the process OVRServer_x64.exe should be running constantly when the Meta Quest Link app is open. The bug seems to be independent of headset type and has affected some users with CV1, Quest 1, Quest Pro and Quest 3 headsets. It's not affecting everyone though, which is curious. Are you using the PTC/Beta version by any chance?

My Link (v81.0.0.930.254, non-PTC) is working fine on my Quest 3 (v81.1034).

sorry just read the whole thing, I not running any PTC or beta version as far as im aware
        Also running a quest 2
and my link was running fine on my headset however due to being unable to connect to link server i cant connect my headset to my pc

  • Chargeterror are you using the installer from your downloads(like from the first time you downloaded it)? Or a fresh one from the Meta Horizon Link install page?

Abdallah.hilali I uninstalled the application earlier today after seeing a post from u on another person question, deleted the installer i had on my comp. restarted my comp, then went to the meta horizon page on the website and downloaded and installed from that. for it's credit i did NOT need a VPN for the install to work this time (i previously couldnt get it to install until i got a vpn) however it still can't connect to link server when trying to determine app status
Only thing i can imagine is that the OVRserver_x64 isnt working

  • Chargeterror can you tell me more details about what windows version you have and what browser you used to install the app?

Also I assume you already went into services and killed OVRService? if not can you do that as well and try again?

Chargeterror also, I don't know if this could be the problem, but please check that your QWAVE service in Windows is running and not set to disabled.

      References here and here.
