Meta Quest Link Installation Issue – Workaround Steps

Hi everyone,

We’re aware of an issue some users are experiencing when installing the Meta Quest Link app for the first time, where the installer nearly completes but then fails with an error related to a missing dependency (libcrypto.dll). We’re actively working on a software update to resolve this, but in the meantime, here’s a workaround to help you get up and running:

Symptoms

  • Installer reaches nearly 100% and then fails.
  • Log files (found at C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\Oculus) may show:
    An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)

Cause

  • The issue is due to a missing dependency for the OpenSSL 3.6 library (libcrypto.dll).

Workaround Steps

Manual Fix (Recommended)

  1. Download and install OpenSSL 3.6.x
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 in Windows File Explorer
  3. Find libcrypto-3-x64.dll and rename it to libcrypto.dll
  4. Run the Meta Quest Link installer again

We are working on an official fix that will be included in an upcoming software update. This workaround is intended to help you in the meantime. If you have any questions or run into issues, please reply to this thread.

    A CHRISTMAS MIRRACLE! IT WORKS!!! finally - thank you so much! Give that man a raise Mr. Zuckerberg! And more Important give that Fix instantly your support department that answers that ive got from them where based on old versions with old paths and totally copy paste from AI programs.

    This does work for me. Thank you for your effort to get some sort of fix out. Its unfortunate some are still having issues downloading. That will most likely need a full fix from the installer side, but this fix does work for me.

    Nice, It worked! just make sure you don't change the file name in the downloaded file and do it in your sys32 file located in the windows files folder.

    Does any one know if there is a work around to get Link on V83 to work? My headset will randomly disconnect regardless on what is running.

      Disable HAGS in Windows settings. Also, in the Link dashboard, decrease the bitrate a little until you get a more stable connection.
