Poor Link Performance in Games with v83.0.0.333.349

v83.0.0.333.349 really killed my Link performance. Games have constant stuttering and frame drops. Everything worked perfectly fine before this update. Do you guys have the same issue? A friend of mine is experiencing the exact same problem.

If you have Windows Security update KB5074109, then uninstall it and pause your Windows updates until Meta releases their next Link update.

Otherwise, decrease your Encode Bitrate in Link, you have it set too high.

Any value for the bitrate encoding that you've been using on v81 that was working without any problem, if now that same value with v83 and v85 it's not working or creating stuttering, then the problem it's not the VALUE of the Encoding Bitrate,  v83 and v85 are, we will not LOWER the bitrate trying "FIX" a problem that we didn't had with v81. Be smart and stop giving "solutions" that are not fixing the root cause of the problem, META have to deal with the ROOT of the problem. v81 it's the reference that even up to 960mbits was working fine. (in good PC systems), your max specific value on your system with v81 was your reference, and you should not need to lower that bitrate value at all using the newer versions, but right now, there is a big problem since about 2 months already in META trying to fix all this.

FYI the tooltips in the Oculus Debug Tool say you need to be cautious because high values can cause instability and need to be adjusted after every update 😉. There's a good reason why the default is dynamic adjustment. You've created your own problem by using non-default settings that are now too high.

  • I have the exact same problem as you. Why does every update from Meta bring us more problem than joy?
