Quest 3 OpenXR Broken After Update: Gray Button, Yellow Borders, UEVR/Praydog Mods Fail

I have a Meta Quest 3 on Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (Ryzen 7 7700, RTX 4070 Ti Super, 32GB RAM).

Everything worked perfectly for almost a year. After the latest Meta Quest PC app update (early December 2025), OpenXR stopped working for VR mods:

    • "Set Meta Quest Link as active" button is grayed out and unresponsive (even as admin).
    • UEVR and Praydog RE VR mods fail with "OpenXR not found/not loaded".
    • Luke Ross Real VR mods (non-OpenXR) still work fine.
    • Thin yellow borders now appear around my monitor when Link mirrors the desktop (new since the update).

Already tried:

    • Clean reinstall of Meta Quest PC app (deleted all folders in AppData, Program Files,

      etc.).
    • Manual registry fix (ActiveRuntime correctly points to oculus_openxr_64.json).
    • Uninstalled SteamVR and Mixed Reality tools.
    • Disabled HAGS, repaired app, ran everything as admin.

OpenXR Tools detects Quest 3, but mods can't load OpenXR. I suspect the new Graphics Capture API (yellow borders) is conflicting.

Please see attached screenshots:

    1. Grayed out button
    2. Yellow monitor borders
    3. UEVR error

I have this exact same issue and the same hardware (Ryzen 7700/RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB). Mods can't load OpenXR. Additionally, browser-launched VR videos can't connect to OpenXR and result in a black screen.

    • "Set Meta Quest Link as active" button is grayed out and unresponsive (even as admin).

That's perfectly normal, it means you have Meta Quest Link set as the active OpenXR runtime, so you can't set what is already set. It's been like that since forever, btw.

OpenXR Toolkit is not supported, has been discontinued by the developer since 2024, and the developer does not recommend using it.

The error messages shown in your screenshots refer to OpenVR, not OpenXR. OpenVR is the STEAM OpenXR runtime, not Meta Quest. Make sure the OpenXR Toolkit is disabled, or it may cause conflicts. You need to close LINK then run SteamVR and set Steam OpenVR to be the active runtime. Then close SteamVR and run Link. When Link asks you if you want to set Quest Link as the active OpenXR, DO NOT. Just run your game and chances are it will work, but not guaranteed. If it doesn't, then just use SteamLink or VirtualDesktop to play the game 🤷‍♂️.

Ok, so? The border only shows when you wear the headset. So?
