Horizon Link v85 issues with SteamVR?

Earlier today (1/28/26) I was using my Quest 3 to run SteamVR, worked fine. A couple hours later, after not being on VR for most of the day, decide to get back in, boot up Horizon Link App, hit with an update. After update, go to open SteamVR, to find I'm hit with a "VRApplicationError_IPCFailed" from Steam several times, never able to get into SteamVR. The ONLY thing that has changed in the last 12-ish hours is that I updated to v85. Should I look for a workaround or just wait for another patch?

  • Hello Isopod33 :

I'm sorry to hear that you have been seeing this issue with SteamVR where you keep getting "VRApplicationError_IPCFailed".

What GPU(Graphics Card) do you have?  Is it an Nvidia or AMD GPU?  Regardless, check to see if the graphics driver for your GPU is updated to the latest version.  Once that GPU driver has been updated, reboot the PC and then try running SteamVR.

    Regards

  • I'm having the exact same error, NVIDIA GPU, latest driver. Rebooted PC multiple times, even reinstalled SteamVR (even installed a newer beta version but no success) and it just doesn't work, throws the same "VRApplicationError_IPCFailed" error, nothing seems to make it work. As the post creator said, the only thing that changed was the update to the Meta Horizon app, so something in it broke the connection to SteamVR.

  • You wait for some time, your device may have overheated due to which the device is not taking the signal, generally the mobile or any other device you have with which you repeatedly knock is taking a rest.  Give and restart.I hope your desired endeavor will be successful...ΰ₯€ #Sheikh Shuvo Jabid πŸ‡§πŸ‡©

Hey, this makes no sense. It doesn't matter restarting the device, and it's not overheated anyway as it has nothing open, and it's a pretty new Meta Quest 3. Also, the problem is only with SteamVR, Meta Horizon Link works fine, it makes no sense for a overheat problem only happen on one software specifically.

Exact same issue on my side, was working well but same day after new boot and meta update stopped working. Rtx3080 with latest drivers. Using SteamVR standard (no beta)

  • I had the same issue today with iRacing.  It updated to v85 link software and now I can’t start iRacing.  Was working perfectly last night before the update.

SteamVR seems to be working fine with AirLink (v85.0.0.223.552) on my Quest 3 (v83). I just tested it using Half Life 2 VR Mod.

It is now working again.  However now I am experiencing the same issue as previous version where the headset won’t charge past 74%.

What has Link software on your PC got to do with headset charging πŸ˜†?
