Now you can't change bit rate anymore ...

The latest version of Meta Horizon Link (PTBeta), now give you the ILLUISION of everything going just amazing.

You can put whatever bit rate you want in DebugTool ... from 10 to 2048mbits ... and you will have an smooth experience, no stutter, no jumps, everything going AMAZING! ...

UNTIL! ... You realize... wait a minute! ... I can put 10mbits to 2048mbits as Encoding Bitrate ? ... Great but! ... WHY I don't see ANY DIFFERENCE on IMAGE QUALITY? ...

Oh no!, yep ... the bit rate it's FIXED now (I don't know at what value, maybe the default one), no matter what number you put, and you can even confirm the number with the Performance Graph in the DebugTool, with the "Oculus Link DETAILS" option .. and check that your bitrate value it's there. But it's NOT USING IT AT ALL.

So, if you quit the beta version, you go back to a v83, and there it's everything as bad and messy/buggy/laggy/stuttery as we start posting this problems about 4 months ago now (since v83 got released), unless you use less than 300mbits.

Thanks META!.

Some people are pathological complainers, I guess 🤷‍♂️. It's BETA software after all. Report the issue through the feedback option in the app.

Did you make sure to restart the OVRSevice after changing your settings?

Please post a screenshot of your Oculus Debug Tool settings.

Yes, everything was done, restarting the service etc. the problem still the same, it has problems with bitrates higher than 600, and I was always using 940mbits with USB without any problem since Quest 2. This new Meta Link App it's not as it was.

  • Hey, did you hop around a tree three times on one foot before your headset lit up? That headset is dead; the software will still be in beta in 100 years.

  • I set my ODT link inputs to defaults/zeros except distortion = low, dynamic bitrate = enabled, and max dynamic bitrate = 750mbps.  These ODT inputs work great for both Link and Air Link.  Using the ODT hud/link details I see a pretty steady 700-750mbps bitrate with very good clarity with Link and 200-220mbps bitrate with Air Link.  This is with the latest v83 non-beta (headset and meta link pc app).  Also, using win11 with a rtx5090 and fairly recent nvidia driver 591.74.

If you cannot troubleshoot and sort this out with a little googling, I suggest you contact meta support and include your log files (google how to do this).  Good luck mate and cheers.

Just remember this, with USB Link, since I've got Quest 2 many years ago, with a 3080ti I was around 850mbits (fixed/constant, not dynamic) without ANY problem. Then with Quest 3 and a 4090 I was at 920 to 960mbits (also with USB link with fixed/constant value, not dynamic), without ANY problem even at 1.5x to 1.75x upsampling. So, from WHERE do you think that NOW / TODAY with a NEWER version (v83 and v85 beta) comes the PROBLEM that we CAN'T USE THAT high bitrate? ... From you hardware? or FROM THE META HORIZON LINK APP (PC)  ? ... Thanks. Imagine how much higher you could use your hardware with a optimal / no bugs / no error Meta Link App, maybe you could use 1200mbits with USB, or more, WITHOUT any problem.

  • You're exactly right.  I've experienced the same issue (mine just updated to v85 release version).

When updated to V83... I couldn't set bitrate higher than about 350 otherwise I'd get constant stutters.  Previously I set it to 500.

Now with the update to V85, changing the encoding bitrate does absolutely nothing.  In the performance overlay it shows whatever you entered but it's BS.  I tried the same as you, setting it to everything from 20 to 1000 and it made no difference whatsoever.

I did discover however, that if you enable dynamic bitrate you can set the max dynamic bitrate to whatever you like and it will work (well sort of).  It still hasn't fixed the issue that was introduced with V83 and it stutters for me when set to anything above about 350.

I just wish I could go back to V81 or whatever the last proper, working version was.  Everything was working great until Meta decided to ruin it.  I was hoping for a fix with V85 but alas, I fear we're now stuck with maximum bitrates of 300ish.

    Boo Meta!

Nothing's fixed, the image still stutters and freezes. V85 and 2.1  Still the same problem with decoding the image. Instead, we have another update just to stop anyone from visiting previous threads on this ridiculous forum. I don't want to hear anymore meta fanboys saying everything is fine. I know how it was and how it should be. All my friends who own meta are having the same problem. For comparison, the Pico 4 Ultra for PCVR runs like a dream; high bitrates make everything smooth, sharp, and enjoyable. Performance is also better; the same settings as Quest 3, increased resolution and bitrate. I'm also placing an order for the Pimax Dream Air after many years in the VR world since the first CV1. I can't believe the legend of meta is falling before my eyes. Their software used to be the best, now it's a total tragedy and shame. It's a shame, Mr. Zuckerberg, that you allow such practices in your backyard...

They fixed some things a little bit with 2.1 (Meta Link PC app) ... There is less CPU load, that allow to have higher quality settings and will keep stable, no stutters, but you need to keep bitrates not higher than about 600mbits. In general it's very stable and smooth, no stutters, but we still have that high bitrate limited. And you need to put the value in DebugTool and RESTART the service to apply it.

I have the same thing happening to me, there was an update and then link just doesn't work for me, I used to use wired link at 500mbps fully stable maybe 1 or 2 stutters every once in a while and now I can't go above 200mbps without terrible frame drops. I am on an AMD card so I assumed they must have ruined something with the AMD encoder implementation. What GPU do you currently have?

Just to clarify a couple things, I am talking about encoder frame drops. The encoder only runs at 50-60fps if i have it set to 500mbps with 4096x2208 encode resolution which I used to be able to run at 90hz but not quite 120hz so I stayed on 90hz. Now if I go to 200mbps or higher I see some hiccups in the encoder, only running at 85-89fps on the encoder so there is still lag. And 200mbps looks a lot worse than 500mbps.

  • they made it so you can change it again in the new update but the latency is still vary poor at bit rates that used to work fine

  • Im also having judder stutter and what looks like vsync issues, terrible nausea. Used to rock perfect for 2 years with link and 500 mbps fixed - now impossible nausea. Extremely sad. Fixed bitrate is broken on latest 85 and 201 PTC both. Well link overall is broken due to judder and nausea.
