These features and enhancements will gradually become available starting the week of February 7, 2024 and will be pushed to Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 2 headsets. Please note that you can find the most up to date release notes on ourrelease notes article and you can check out ourv62 blogas well for more details.
Spatial Video Gallery
If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, you can now upload spatial videos to your Quest headset using the Meta Quest mobile app. Sample spatial videos are available for viewing on your Quest headset in theSpatial videossection of the Files app.
Spatial video length is limited to 20 minutes.
Gamepad support
Meta Quest Browser now supports external gamepads, including PlayStation, Xbox, and many more. Connect via Bluetooth or USB-C and enjoy countless web-based games on a massive 2D VR screen.
Quest support for gamepads has also been enhanced to include PlayStation 5 DualSense Wireless Controllers and PlayStation 4 DualShock.
Safety Center
We’ve introduced a Safety Center within Privacy and Safety Settings, making it easier to view profile status details, any restrictions added to your profile forcode of conductviolations, and your reports about others.
Simplified Quick Actions menu
We’ve streamlined the default Quick Actions when using hands. A quick pinch and release now opens the universal menu, and a pinch and hold recenters the headset view.
You can try out the new default Quick Actions or use the previous version of Quick Actions with more shortcuts. You can find this feature inSettingsunderMovement tracking, selectHand tracking, then select the toggle next toExpanded Quick Actions.
Set up multiple spaces
We've added support to save up to 15 total spaces in Space Setup. You can now scan, name and experience the magic of mixed reality in more than one room.
To manage your spaces, go toSettings, thenPhysical spaceand selectSpace setup.
Space Recall improvements
We continue to improve the headset’s ability to remember previously set up spaces. For situations when a previous space can’t be recalled, we’ve added the ability for you to look around the room and have the headset recall the space without having to rescan the area.
Anchors improvements and fixes
Anchors are foundational to support boundary and Space Setup and further allow you to position and persist virtual content in your apps.
To best support adaptive experiences, our improvements include:
Increased accuracy across all Quest devices as well as larger space tracking for Quest 3.
Improved Scene Anchors to have fixed relative poses and walls stay fixed to improve roomscale experiences that involve physics.
Quest Link updates
We’ve made a number of updates and improvements for Meta Quest Link, including:
Oculus PC app is now the Meta Quest Link App.
Link now offers a 120Hz refresh rate with compatible PCVR titles
WhenUSB Link Auto-Connectis turned on, Link will now automatically reconnect if there is a software crash or disconnection.
You can find this setting by going toDeveloperinSystem Settings. Make sureEnable custom settingsis toggled on, then you can select the toggle next toUSB Link Auto-Connect.
We introduced Spatial Data Permission to our headsets and are now also bringing it to Link. This gives you control over sharing spatial data over Link. You’ll need to enable Spatial Data sharing in Settings to use Scene API over Link.
Link now supports nVidia 4000 Series GPUs.
We’ve made improvements to Link stability, reliability and battery efficiency.
We resolved a number of known issues and bugs.
App continuity when multitasking
This feature allows you to pick up where you left off within apps and between apps as you transition across various experiences in VR, making it easier for you to continue your tasks without interruption.
Microphone quality enhancements
We’ve made a number of improvements to Quest microphone quality and usability, including:
Increased audio quality and improved audio/video synchronization for screen recordings.
Improved speech clarity with suppressed plosives or pop sounds like “P” and “T” and fine-tuned equalization to give your voice a more balanced and pleasant sound.
When making a party call on Quest, there is Improved discoverability of the Call bar, with the option to switch the microphone between Calls and App.
We fixed an issue where you could accidentally mute your microphone.
Added prompts to alert you when your microphone is muted, like when an app is trying to use your microphone so you can chat with other people.
Facebook livestreaming
First announced in v56, Facebook livestreaming is now available on Meta Quest, allowing you to livestream to your Facebook friends from Meta Quest.
Once youadd your Facebook accountto the same Accounts Center as your Meta account, you will be able to livestream from Quest to Facebook by selectingCamerafrom the universal menu, and then selectingGo Live.
YouTube livestreaming and chat
We are introducing a new way for YouTube livestreamers to engage with their community in real time. YouTube streamers can now see their YouTube live chats while fully immersed in VR. YouTube livestreaming requires casting to desktop and using stream companion desktop software, such asOBS.
Note: This feature works for public live streams only and will not work for private or unlisted streams.
Is there a feature yet that reinstates our social media accounts when our child accidentally plays a game in our account instead of theirs? That’s the feature we all truly care about. How Meta accounts can’t truly help us with anything & how Facebook & instagram help pages are a joke…that’s the updates & features we want. Especially those of us that make a living managing numerous social media accounts…
I'd also like to request a battery charging limit. My Android devices have 85% and one of my devices which doesn't have it has a rooted app that enables it so it's not a hardware level feature.
Maybe put it in experimental so people won't turn it on and complain about lack of battery.
Okay I hope you have figured out the microphone issues on the Meta 3 headset so that we can be heard better. Thanks for the improvements, I'll reserve judgment on the microphone till I get the update.
Is the v62 update going to solve the wifi stability in airlink for the quest 3? Since I got my quest 3, it is impossible to play PCVR with airlink and everything is working fine with my quest 2.
The entire section in the release notes about the changes to Quick Actions Menu (while using hands) seems to be false. It works exactly the same as it used ot.
Also, there is no Expanded Quick Actions setting as the release notes claim (see capture).
I got a v62 update on both my QPro and meta link PC app today. Still none for my Q3. I'm not on PTC with either headset or the PC app btw.
QPro version is v62.0.0.248.343
Meta Link PC version is v62.0.0.235.345
So far my QPro seems to be working fine, standalone and PCVR with Air Link. My Pro controllers seem to stay connected a bit better when going back and forth from standalone to PCVR. I haven't tried any v62 enhancements yet because they don't really interest me. I mainly use my QPro for PCVR with Air Link or Link. I may try out a few of these later with my Q3 since I'm mainly using it for standalone VR/MR.
My Q3 hasn't updated to v62 yet so I don't see a PCVR 120Hz option yet. I did notice that the PC app device graphics settings res slider looks like it has a small extension tacked on to the far right but since my Q3 doesn't have v62 yet this extension is not selectable. Looks like v62 may not only unlock PCVR 120Hz, but also provide a small encoding increase to take advantage of the Q3's higher resolution. It'll be interesting to see if this makes any significant difference in clarity, hopefully not at the cost of too much loss in performance.
I'll report back with updates once my Q3 receives v62.
since v62 I have a weird issue. When I take off my Quest 3 it automatically changes the passthrough mode to the virtual environment. And when I put it on again I can shortly see the virtual environment before it changes to passthrough mode again. But then the UI is in strange positions for example somewhere on the ground.
Restarting the headset didn't help so far.
Also I don't have any spatial videos in the files app. The should be some demo files but there is even no spatial video folder.
I think there must be an issue with this update. Hand tracking is also not present when using Link. Seems like someone forgot to turn a feature flag on or something?
Having trouble adding Spatial Videos from my iPhone to the IOS Meta Quest App Gallery. I have V62 on Quest 3 and IOS Meta Quest Version 252.0.0.6.119 installed on an iPhone 15 Pro Max (Running IOS 17,4 Beta) and can't access my camera roll from within the Meta Quest IOS app Gallery. I just bought Meta Ray Bans today and they use an IOS App Meta View. Went into Privacy & Security and under Photos I looked at the list of apps. Meta View has full Access (which I selected in app through. pop up) but Meta Quest doesn't even show up on the list. Loads of my other Apps all show up in the list, most with full access. One does show up with None as access so I assume all Apps should show up there and don't understand why Meta Quest doesn't. Even in the normal setting part of the iPhone I scroll down to Meta Quest and it show setting the ALLOW META QUEST ACCESS it list the following for Location, BlueTooth, Local Network, Siri & Search, Notifications, Background App Refresh and Mobile Data. However when I select the Meta View app setting for ACCESS it list all of those plusContacts and Photos (Full Access). Any help would be much appreciated
When you say hand tracking is not present in link, do you mean you can't use your hands in link? Because I think this update isn't supposed to do that (I WISH). I think it's only supposed to allow pcvr APPS to use hand tracking without having developer mode turned on.
Well, the release notes say "these were previously only supported for developers". That's what finally made me realize they didn't actually add anything NEW to the hand tracking support. Just the same as everyone already had who turned on developer mode. I'm a developer who is working on hand-tracked apps, so it was very disappointing. Such a pain to have to fish out the controller to exit link nicely (because sometimes, if you don't it gets in a bad state).
I don’t have gallery icon in my function page. Anyone can advise me how to enable gallery icon? So that I can upload spatial video from my iPhone 15 pro to Quest 3. Thanks.
Since the new update I'm limited to 200mbps bitrate for oculus wired link. Anything more and it lags out. Its not just me this has happened to. Was working fine with much higher rate previously.
@nortsen I contacted support twice after the v62 update, thinking the exact same thing. No indication of there being an update. Even the meta guide app shows "V60 December" in "What's new" AFTER the v62 update. All I see that's different is V62 in settings thinking something is wrong with just my headset. Glad I'm not alone!!
@Oyajuu I enabled PTC and I got the V62 update right away. It didn't however say if it was a PTC or not.
Apparently the updates are supposed to slowly roll out on the week of 7th Feb. So if you don't see any changes until 14th, either enable PTC or contact support.
@mugensukuyomi@Oyajuu The v62 final rollout for the Q3 may have been delayed based on responses of issues from some people who got this, or maybe current PTC users. I wouldn't recommend going into PTC just to try jumping the cue. It will come out in due course, as will all, or most of its features. Some features may be delayed until the next update (v63?) if there are found to be problems with them.
I already posted that I got v62 (not PTC) on both my QPro and PC a couple of days ago, but not yet with my Q3. So far the only minor problem with both of my headsets is that when I use Link or Air Link and call up the virtual desktop I get a yellow oval with a ! mark in the middle. I disappears when I point my controller at the screen. Just kinda annoying. I've put in a bug report on this.
You should 100% drop the hand tracking anyone can see it isn't going to work. What is it now: 300MS? I know it makes your fake reputation better, but REAL customers are disappointed and calling it false advertising. Fix 120hz audio capture
Quest Pro headset updated to 62, Meta Quest app on iOS at version 253.0.0.9.118. I don't see an upload option in the gallery section of the app, and I don't see a "spatial videos" folder in the files app in the headset. is there something else I should be expecting to happen?
Quest on V62 and IOS app on 253.0.0.9.118 and I also can’t browse anything in App Gallery. Meta Quest app doesn’t show up in iPhone 15 Pro Max setting under Privacy and Security Photo library access. Wonder if anybody got this working yet
@Frankalexandre I was already on the beta version for the headset software. Then I enabled 120 in sidequest and updated my meta link software to PTC, which brought back 120hz. I have no idea if this is to do with sidequest or just a coincidence 😅
A recent update has really increased the time it takes for my app to start up. Im on UE4.27.2 and doing a VR preview takes AGES! (15 - 20 s freeze of all UE UI before it starts). The packaged app also takes really long to start.
It works normally the first time I start it after opening the editor but after that it takes ages. While its stuck the log says Initialising OVRPlugin session..
This is super bad for my iteration time. Please Fix it 😞
i am on v62 on quest 3 plus i am on v62 (beta) on meta quest link desktop software:
there is still NO 120hz option available for me.
i have already tried switching to the v62 no-beta meta quest link desktop software and i have also restarted quest link several times: there is still no 120hz option visible!
update: 120hz ist now available for me!!! that's good.
in my opinion motion reprojection (asw) on auto with 120hz just does not work as intended, it does not kick in, when it should on auto in oculus debug tool. you have to force on "always on", to get it working in the right range.
@StankwaterBozoI managed to reproduce here, it is really something with Sidequest. After enabling 120 hz in sidequest restarting oculus app bring back 120 hz option. 120 hz not working great for me, only way i can get stable picture motion i Iracing is to use h265 with 160 mbps bitrate and encode resolution 3.600 or h264 and 400 mbps. Compression artefacts are very noticeable with that bitrate but i'll take it for the improved latency and game responsiveness.
Did you delete the version 61 release notes? I GUESS that you weren't happy with AAC so 62 doesnt have the AAC fix? Did you give up trying to get your audio capture working? Can I please have the AAC encoder from version 61 for my personal use
I got v62 firmware, but no upload button on my iPhone 15 pro. So that I download apple spatial video from NAS. Can’t play apple spatial video from Meta Quest 3 File directly. 😩 4X VR video player can play apple spatial video directly, but not smoothly.
