These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of May 18, 2023 and will be rolling out to Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.
Custom Skybox View
Enhance or personalize the Skybox View that surrounds your Home environment in VR by selecting one of the preinstalled options or uploading your own image. You can manage your Skybox View from the Personalization tab in Settings. Check out our Custom Skybox View blog for more details.
Note: Custom Skybox View is not available in groups and may not work in all environments.
Follow request improvements
We’re making it easier to manage your follow requests to connect with other users. Follow requests will now be grouped together at the top of your notifications. Selecting this notification will take you to the People tab where you can view and respond to all your follow requests.
Guardian improvements
We are improving your headset's ability to remember more boundaries, so you can spend less time redrawing them.
This will be rolling out gradually.
App Library improvements
We’ve updated the look and feel of your App Library. Filter and sort are now integrated into search for a more robust search experience.
Avatar mirror rollout
The avatar mirror in your Horizon Home is now available in more environments, allowing you to easily view and personalize your avatar.
Improved Quest Touch Pro controller tracking
We have improved the tracking performance for Quest Touch Pro controllers, more reliably positioning controllers in VR based on their position in real life.
Light theme
We moved Light theme from Experimental Features to System Settings. Light theme allows you to select a lighter color scheme for menus and notifications in VR. To change your display theme, select Personalization from Settings, then select Display Theme.
Physical Space setting
We’ve combined the Boundary, Passthrough and Objects & Furniture settings into the Physical Space setting.
Customize more notifications in VR
You can now turn on notifications in VR for more apps from the Notifications menu in Settings.
Everyone still waiting for v54 should probably count themselves lucky considering the issues people have reported about it. Probably be a good thing if it were skipped in favour of v55.
HI. V54 just arrived on my Quest 2. The Skybox option is present (it must be activated in the experimental functions menu before being able to see it at the end of the virtual environments menu) The library has changed visually. There is a magnifying glass on the dock that does nothing. I didn't find any "physical space" settings and the configuration of the room remains in the experimental functions with the difference that now the desk no longer even appears in the addable objects. Avatar mirrors have been added to all environments. No problems on normal use. I haven't tested airlink yet.In direct touch mode with the small panel, the same can now be taken with one hand and moved at will without having to pinch the white line at the bottom and this I must admit is a nice improvement.I hope v55 actually introduces something related to "enhancing the Guardian" and this "physical space" because as I imagined, these entries were added to the v54 release notes, but right now they are just words.
I agree with you. But now it's being released, it won't be skipped so much so that I just received it and what can I say... it just works. it is quite evident that it is an incomplete firmware. Let's hope that with v55 or whatever it will be called, it will be better.
I just updated my Quest 2 to the new v54 and it made my Oculus Air Link basically unusable... I get a massive cross flickering over my whole screen every half a second or something and it really hurts the eyes... The v53 update already massively broke my 5 Ghz connection which took me a long time to fix (yes I'm using the right wifi channel and yes I tried multiple resolution and refresh rate settings, it's the same for all of them). But now this flickering cross is preventing me completely from using Air Link...
This just happened as I updated to v54. I updated from v53 because I started having a laggy connection again even though all settings were correct and I restarted multiple times. Now it's not laggy anymore but this massive flickering started and when I move my head a little bit THEN it starts with massive lag spikes... My 5 GHz connection is completely fine. It's just the Quest 2 Wi-Fi drivers that have been broken since v53... You need to stop releasing broken updates... (I got the v53 update without being in PTC and I couldnt downgrade again...)
I heard a lot of people have had issues with Air Link on v53, has no one had any new issues since v54 yet?
Little update: I managed to fix the big cross across the screen by turning off Mobile ASW in the Debugging Tool. Kinda forgot I turned that on... But I am still getting massive lag spikes when I move around a tiny bit with Air Link... I even got a new router that now has WiFi 6 and it's the exact same issue... I'm using 5 GHz and WiFi Channel 36. I can be in my room or right next ot the router it's the exact same issue... Also tried every single resolution and refresh rate setting, no success... All the same... Messaged the Support directly now and hope they can help...
I'm having issues with the dashboard on airlink with HAGS turned on in windows 11. Major lag when viewing desktop while a game is running. Only happens with HAGS on. Fine with it off. But I'd like to see it be looked at so I can keep it on.
Just had my Q2 and PC update to v54. I don't think HAGS is on, I will check but all seems fine so far the new skybox feature works. I do not think the App menu update looks like an improvement to me. I have not seen any changes in the guardian yet.
I thought so too, but first you have to activate the option in Experimental Features and then at the very bottom of the Virtual Environments screen (scroll down) you'll see the option for the Skybox customization.
Oh, thanks for this. My headset updated to v54 a couple days ago and I noticed the big flashing X/cross. At first I thought it was my graphics driver which I had updated the day before. I downgraded the driver which did not eliminate the problem. Then I saw your post. Disabling ASW eliminated the flashing cross.
Not that it matters since Air Link has been basically useless for me since v48/49. With my AMD RX 590 there is a noticeable visual distortion in the right "eye" and the screen resolution is not as sharp as it was before v49. Also when I have a fixed bitrate the resolution goes in and out from blocky (no detail) to somewhat fuzzy/grainy.
Everyone points the blame at the AMD drivers but these problems started with the Meta update and the AMD drivers were the same between versions. I tried going back 2+ years of driver versions but the problems remained the same.
Even with the Link Cable I am not able to get the screen resolution as sharp as before v48/49.
Gaming isn't important enough for me to spend $400 or more to upgrade my GPU. I have some VR games and apps on my PC that I can no longer play. But I mainly used Air Link to access the remote/virtual desktop.
Virtual Desktop has been unaffected by any AMD driver updates so I use that exclusively to access my PC desktop while wearing my headset. Immersed was unaffected as well but I uninstalled it. I take this as signs that the screen problems I'm seeing are more Meta's issue than the AMD drivers.
Well it looks like the Home Environment has been ripped out of Link/Air Link Oculus App. The EXE files have been removed from my PC Oculus app with the v54 update.
So my Quest2 must have updated on the weekend. Can you please put the warning about 'allow connected device to access files to connecting to a device' back to when the headset boots up, after the guardian. It is bloody annoying because now you start the quest link, then the warning comes up and you have to use a hand controller to accept it, then it disconnects the quest link and you then have to start the quest link again. Its not efficient, where as when it was right when it booted you could select quest link and off you go.
Got v54 now... desktop and firmware for Q2... after holiday.
So it's happened, which doesn't to so before (after nearly 3 years of use): Air Link is broken. There is a random "falsh" which looks like a big centered X, cunching the screen in it.
Hey @Buetigame! You're not the only one having issues with Air Link after this update. The engineers are actually already working on this! We y have a thread dedicated to this specific issue with Air Link on v54 here. I'd certainly recommend checking out that thread, and that is where one of the moderators will post as soon as there is a fix!
thanks for your fast supply, gladfully I'm not the only one. But your linked thread is already marked as "solved", solution: - factory reset or - goto "PTC" 55
Whitch PTC? Desktop/Firmware or both? A factory reset (of course!) wouldn't work.
turning Mobile ASW completely off by using ODT does the trick - the flashing X is gone. But now, there are the problems with frequent "stalls" (seems no "lags" or such).
This piece-meal rollout of version features give the impression that "release" versions are still in beta test. For example the feature to pin apps to the Universal Menu did not roll into my headset until weeks after the initial version update on my headset. Then a few days later it was removed, never to be seen again on my headset.
The same for the v54 changes to the App Library view. At first along with the cosmetic changes (smaller tiles, uninstalled apps "greyed out") there was a filter button/icon next to the search bar on top. A couple days later the button goes away.
If a new feature is buggy or unpopular in PTC it should not be rolled out into the "production" version. Of course some bugs won't get caught in beta-testing (PTC). With the number of serious bugs we see each release Meta perhaps should look for a better beta-testing community or seriously reconsider the rushed schedule of a new release every month.
propose a better community of beta testers? But do you think any of the beta testers get rewards? There are people here who DAILY waste their blood reporting bugs! Or maybe you expect beta testers to fix the problems Meta creates for you? As far as I'm concerned you should only thank the people who are part of the PTC and I would have told you even if I wasn't part of it right now.
Hi community manager, Ryanality. Hey just curious why patch notes of features and enhancements are not out yet for the V55. This is funny because Oculus V55 is in its second stage of being rolled out to everyone. With all the bugs in V54 not looked into or touched any of the problems reported...... There seems to be memory leaks in this V55 version that is disrupting game play in my headset, and forcing application close and push back to Oculus home. Curious when patch notes will be pushes and when everyone not in the test channel will receive those patch notes.....
My pro headset updated to 54 when I first started it up , and the controllers immediately stopped working. The headset can see their orientation but their position in space, exactly the thing you're saying was improved, does not track at all. For the amount of money I put on the table for this equipment it needs to work, and I don't mean in a month. Support, in replying to my queries, said 'We don't have a date for any future updates; however, we would like to provide you with a link so that you may check for those updates yourself. Please click here to be redirected to our Meta Quest release notes page. Let us know if there is anything further that we may assist you with as we are always happy to help!' Is that really what you want to be saying? 'Here's a link to find out when we decided it was convenient for us to fix your broken-out-of-the-box device? Happy to help?' Your customers are not your testers, and this 'good luck with your problem' tone is infuriating.
I've recently updated to V54 and I have to say things are worse, Guardian goes wonky, headset keeps telling me I don't have enough light, strange I did before the update, and I also now have Virtual Desktop lag issues again never and issue before and I've gone from a Gen 8 i7 to a gen 11 i7 all other specs the same. All worked perfect before V54 Now I can't play PCVR games with out glitches and head spins from the glitches. Not happy Jan!
Also my TouchPro controller tracking seems to be glitchy as well, something I've noticed other people saying!
I started the return process with this headset. I am too old and too busy to pour time into this. I’ll look again a little later, and let y’all know how the return goes.
Well surprise surprise! The pin to Universal Menu is back. Thank you Meta, I find this to be a very useful feature.
I can only pin up to two apps whereas in the earlier iteration I could pin up to four. The only Quest app that can be unpinned is Camera. I would have liked being able to unpin the People app as I never use it. But it is good having the feature again.
Skybox customization works but is universal - you can't apply customizations individually. Moon VR Home allows you to customize individual environments but only a select few and you have to "build" and install the custom environment.
