We are introducing cloud computing capabilities that improve your headset's ability to remember more boundaries usingpoint cloud data, so you can spend less time redrawing boundaries.
Quest Pro performance upgrades
As part of our effort to continue bringing improvements to our in-market products, in v60 we are enabling higher clock speeds for Quest Pro CPU and GPU when running MR applications, giving you a smoother MR app experience and a more responsive UI. This update also adds more power for developers to take advantage of for both existing and upcoming apps.
These performance improvements include (when compared to Quest Pro at launch):
Up to 34% increase in CPU
Up to 19% increase in GPU when Dynamic Resolution is turned on
End-to-end encryption for cloud backup
If you have cloud backup turned on, you can now secure your backups with your own pin for end-to-end encryption. You’ll need to create an end-to-end encryption PIN which will let you restore your backups after a factory reset or when you set up a new device. You can manage cloud backup and end-to-end encryption fromBackupinSystem Settingsand also from the Meta Quest mobile app.
Got the non-PTC v60 update on my Quest pro earlier today (version 60.0.0.166.366). This also included pro controller updates. So far everything seems to be working fine with standalone and wireless PCVR with Air Link. Don't know about MR since I've got a Q3 for that (which is still on v59 btw). The Oculus desktop app is still also on v59. Also don't know about Horizon Worlds because it still isn't available for me in Australia.
@Ryanality PLEASE DO SOMETHING about WIFI 6E, it's nearly 1 year since 6E is supported and QPro still takes ages to see the network and random disconnects are still happening. This is RIDICULOUS for a company such as META.
@JOE.DANCEN Hard to say for sure because you don't give any details but if I look at the panel behind the main one you're highlighting I see a red cross on the top right. This often indicates that when using Link you are only connected with usb2. If that's the case, maybe this then limits you to 72Hz. Just a wild guess, lol!
Could also be that you're using an old video driver. Of course, it also could be a bug in the v60 update. I didn't see this problem with my Q2 or QPro, but I haven't got v60 on my Q3 yet. In any case, thanks for pointing this out mate.
@Ryanality Thank you for the update news! Like others have mentioned, still hoping to see a 120hz refresh rate and AV1 encoding/decoding option for Quest Link and Air Link for the Quest 3.
@Ryanality Thank you for the update news! Like others have mentioned, still hoping to see a 120hz refresh rate and AV1 encoding/decoding option for Quest Link and Air Link for the Quest 3.
We need higher encode resolution width and 120hz support for Quest Link and Air link.
Looking back at the PTC announcement after a few weeks and reading the comments it is very much apparent that these firmware updates need to STOP. Until the issues that users have been complaining about for YEARS are fixed we don’t need these BS updates that introduce more problems than they fix assuming they fix anything. I love my Quest 3 but shipping it without proper up to date link support (just officially discontinue the pc app already and put any exclusives on steam) and most games not have Quest 3 updates ready (Saints & Sinners 1 in January?!). Meta is a billion dollar company and many vr are projects are subsidized so there is no excuse after owning Oculus for almost 10 years now. Please people love these headsets and we spend good hard earned money on them. That’s why we get so frustrated in these forums. We know for a fact Meta could be doing much better for VR. Why wait for Apple and Valve to claw away market share Meta has built over just the last few years?
Since this update, the Quest Pro controllers no longer make a vibration/noise when placed on the charger dock (though the light indicates charging). Also the headset no longer switches to hand tracking when controllers are placed on the charging dock. When I place them on the dock I get two notifications: one saying that my room light is too low for controllers to track, the other saying that I have to take my controllers off the charger to use them.
Any idea why i dont see any new features on my quest 3 after v60 update? Notable things missing is the Layout Utility app, Lake Side for Environments, Passthrough during app loading. Not sure what else is missing and wondering what i need to do unless there's another update for v60.0.0.175.366.544898056.
@Lando_Noloc This is a firmware release thread, not something to complain about Meta and the rest of the rest of the world. As I've seen no direct connection between your post and this theme, please stop mumble. Open another thread for that - thanks.
Anyway, got the firmware update for my Quest 3 and the desktop app yesterday. Anything works as it schould including AirLink, SteamLink and Virtual Desktop Mobile.
Concrete revision of the release firmware:
System: 49777350049800510
Version: 60.0.0.173.366.544898056
Runtime: 60.0.0.175.366.544897891
OS Vers: SQ3A.220605.009.A1
Desktop App 60.0.0.162.352
I konow, you like it, @TomCgcmfc😉 (and yes, also the controller of the Q3 were updated)
Didn't found the "layout utility app" yet, maybe it will rollout by time or never get it.
Although the settings in the desktop app look funny, and yeah, no 120Hz option:
There is also a chance, that there will be an AV1 option in the future 😚
@Saberpeep With V60 my QPro controllers are still doing the haptic buzz when I place them on the charger. Not sure why yours aren't? Maybe you turned haptics full low in your Quest home settings. I don't use hand. face, or eye tracking so I don't know about your other issue.
@ohheyitsmike Features normally get rolled out over time. Could take another couple of weeks before you have all the new features. BTW, you listed the runtime version, not the usual version that we normally list. My runtime version is the same as yours. TBH, I don't find that most of the recent new features are very useful, fir me anyway.
@Buetigame Ya, I also see that doubling up of Q3 refresh rates and have submitted a bug report. Doesn't happen with my QPro.
V60 Update;
I got V60 on my Q3 yesterday and now both my Q3 and QPro are on version 60.0.0.173.366. Also got an update for my oculus desktop app (non-public beta) to 60.0.0.162.352.
After a few restarts, including clearing my guardian history, everything seems to be working fine with standalone and PCVR using Air Link.
The only major issue I noticed is that my standalone Prime Video app has a few glitches; some white pixel sparkles around the video borders and occasionally the video doesn't actually show up (black screen with audio only). Not a big deal for me because I normally watch Prime Video using Air Link with the Virtual Desktop app (meta/link Rift store version, not Quest store version) because the picture quality is much better.
Edit; today's version v60.0.0.191.366 seems to have fixed the Pixel sparkle I was seeing (and reported) with my Prime Video app. So that was nice!
Also I had a few early problems after v60 with my +2mo Q3 Elite battery strap. It initially did not seem to want to recognize the strap battery and was only drawing power from the headset battery. I needed to fully charge the headset by itself (left for an extra hour after the green light came on to make sure it was 100%). Then I connected the strap battery and put it on charge. After the green light came on, again left it on charge for an extra hour. Afterwards, the strap battery seems to report the headset/external charge levels fine and seems to hold the headset battery at 100% until the strap battery runs out (~1-2% charge). Also, after fully charging I always unplug the strap battery cable if I'm not going to use it for a while because, like my Q2 Elite battery strap, it tends to self discharge about 10-15% if left plugged in overnight.
So far so good. I'll report any further issues I find later, hopefully none, lol!
I am in Charlotte, NC and I did the V60 Update 2 days ago 12/11/2023. There was supposed to be 3 new home environments and the Layout Utility. I got 2 of the new home places, The wild west and the story book but not the mountains. AND I ALSO Did not get the LAYOUT UTILITY. ALOT of people are saying they also can not find the LAYOUT UTILITY. If you Google Oculus Quest 3 LAYOUT UTILITY you will see the Reddit site where 10 people made comments about not finding the Layout Utility app.
@scorpia14 Virtual Desktop already supports AV1, 120Hz. Air Link is basically abandonware at this point. Don't expect them to add more features when they're pushing standalone. It's beyond me why anyone still perseveres with it when VD (and even Steam Link) is far superior.
@DJFLUFFY69 (and others), These updates and features are rolled out so they may not appear on your headset for a couple of weeks. I still don't see the 3rd home environment or the Layout app yet either. I'm not too fussed about either of these anyway.
As far as home environments go, the only ones I find useful are the darkish ones like Lord of the Rings because it helps fine tune my brightness and contrast settings, which carries over into PCVR as well. Right now, with both my Q3 and QPro I'm using about 90% brightness (quick settings brightness slider) and just a very slight amount of the contrast slider (Settings > Accessibility > Vision). My Q2 is now retired but back then I think I was using about 50% brightness and just a slight amount of contrast. Sorry if this is a bit off topic.
@NorbertNoBacon Air Link continues to work well for me and seems to improve a bit with the V60 update with both my Q3 and QPro. So, I hardly think that this is abandonware, lol! Snide, negative comments like yours don't add much value to these forums imho.
Virtual Desktop also works well and I have recently tried out 120Hz and AV1 on my Q3/rtx4090. Personally I didn't see any significant improvements to visuals using AV1 at 100-200mbps compared to using Air Link at 200mbps Dynamic bitrate. Overall I did manage to get very good results with VD but these were not significantly better and I prefer to use Air Link (same preference over Steam Link btw). This is purely a personal preference thing and both wireless options work well if you know how to set them up properly imho. For those that cannot take the time and effort to learn how to properly setup Air Link (and Link) then I will say that VD is easier to setup and it's a little more fool-proof option. Saying one is far superior to the other is pure nonsense imho.
As far as 120Hz goes, I've never seen any advantages in using this compared to 90Hz. I've actually found 80Hz to be the sweet spot for me, esp. with flight sims like msfs because it gives me a little more headroom. I know that some are more refresh intolerant than others though. I can't see much difference between 80/90Hz, even with fast moving racing sims. I do start to see some small amounts of blurring/ghosting if I drop it down to 72Hz though.
Since v60 I have more problems with my mouse pointer disappearing in pcvr. Only jiggling the controler brings back the mouse pointer amd the controler beam but it disappears shortly after that again. It was there in v59 but now it more
@JOE.DANCEN I’ve found something similar for a while now. If I move my pc mouse just a tiny bit the controller pointers disappear. If I move the mouse off screen and point the controller it normally comes back. I’ve found this improved a lot when I changed over from a Bluetooth mouse to a usb wired one, plus temporary disabled my PC Bluetooth.
@TomCgcmfc thanks for the input but due to simracing a bluetooth mouse is my only options. Would be nice if therebwas a possibility to disable the controlernin pcvr
@JOE.DANCEN I fully agree with that mate. I also run a Vive Pro1 with Index controller and I really like that those are sooo easy to turn on/off without any SteamVR problems or complaints.
Hi Guys, Need some help. I have two Oculus Quest 2 devices. And I updated one of them to the latest quest update version available. However, one of the Unity game that I have developed does not work (fps is really low and huge flickering) on the updated version, but works perfectly fine on Quest 2 with the older update Version.
Quest 2 details with new quest update:
Version - 60.0.0.173.366.544898056
RunTime Version - 60.0.0.175.366.544897891
OS Version - SQ3A.220605.009.A1
Quest 2 details with older quest update:
Version - 59.0.0.173.706.535795449
RunTime Version - 59.0.0.172.706.535797236
OS Version - SQ3A.220605.009.A1
I am not very sure why is this happening, I have also resetted the Quest 2 with newer version but it encounters the same issue. can someone please help ? @Ryanality@TomCgcmfc
"I'm pretty sure that Meta plans to bridge both Gui's into one sometime next year. So, I imagine both will end up looking the same and be more seamless for Quest users."
2 or so years later and it looks no different, still branded Oculus, has had features removed and can't even do basic things such as party chat! Fair enough if you prefer it, but having used all 3, for me it's easily the weakest and why would Meta want to push it when they're all about the standalone product? Surely they would've done what you suggested by now if that wasn't the case? If that's snide and negative then I'll take it. I have affiliation to anything, just the quality of the product.
My quest 3 is stuck on update V60 mode for more than 2 hours. I need help as I don't want to brick my expensive gadget. I checked the internet and it seems to be a common issues. Thanks.
Why mention features and home enviroments when most people get them weeks or month after the update?
Its frustrating and confusing when meta promises new features for the update and people don`t find them, like the layout app and new enviroments. Who at Meta thinks this is a good idea? Very weird.
Anyone seen the PIN setting for "End-to-end encryption for cloud backup"? My Q3 was updated to v60, but I don't see any change in System->Backup menu, nor System->Security or System->Permissions.
I understand that they might roll out the features incrementally, but then why it's not clear from the Release Notes which version corresponds to what features from v60 update?
When the Software update page says that I'm on v60 version I expect all features announced in v60 release notes to be available, now I don't know if I'm on "part 1/6" of the upgrade process to final v60 or what. This is very annoying especially for people who are interested to try out some of the announced features (or just don't wont to forget to set something e.g. to set encryption when it gets available ideally before sharing spatial data with meta).
Hello, I'm a Unity Developer, and since your update its proving impossible to develop Unity apps for Oculus 2 now. When I press play in the Unity app to test my game, the Oculus PC app crashes, Link disappears, and it puts me back in the Quest environment. There's other devs complaining on this thread:
V60 PC app and V60 quest 3. Pairs fine, connects fine, but when I launch airlink it goes to infinite loading screen in headset. PC app gives notification of "oculus isn't working correctly".
Checked firewall, antivirus, factory reset, everything ever mentioned on this forum, etc.
for the last few days Meta support has done their best to be helpful with troubleshooting, but it's the usual check your router stuff. No solution found yet.
for the "More ways to visit Meta Horizon Worlds" item, I was hoping there might be a way to add my own personal "favorites" to the Worlds tab in the App Library... is there ? Please let me know. I did not immediately see a way when I looked a the feature myself.
Since updating to v60, I can no longer use direct touch for hand tracking.
Up until v59 I could type directly by touching the virtual keyboard in the Oculus Browser with my index finger, but with v60 the only way to type on the virtual keyboard is to use the trigger on the controller.
Even with Xbox Cloud Gaming, in v59 I could control the Quest side of the game with hand tracking while using the Xbox gamepad, but from v60 I have to bring it back to the controller for Quest.
Other than hand tracking, I still can't use Google Docs in the Oclulus browser. It refuses to accept input as an old browser that is not supported.
It is also very disappointing that you cannot type Japanese with the Bluetooth keyboard. One more breath and I would be able to work without a PC and just with Quest 3. If that happens, Quest 3 will be more popular.
Another v60 update. That makes 4 or 5 so far. Autoupdate disabled. Still no Layout app or Lakeside Peak home environment. MTP notification still not showing.
Also got the version v60.0.191.366 update on both my QPro and Q3 earlier today. All seems to be working fine and it seems to have fixed the pixel sparkles I was seeing (and reported) with my Prime Video app.
Well, it is not suprising at all that Meta is pushing broken updates.
Each time I ask someone how they got a job at Meta, they tell me: "I simply did grind a **bleep** ton of Leetcode". I'm like, okay, lol, you are definitely "skilled" engineer! 😂😂😂
Now you see that every update is filled with hundreds of issues. And you why? Because those "engineers" simply don't care about users. They are there because they want to get their paycheck and go home.
But definitely, Leetcode is the way to go. Gogogo, Meta!
P.S. You know, I would probably go to Meta and fix all goddamn tools and testing processes that I can get my hands on but I now simply don't care cause as I said above, no point going through ocean while having the sinking ship.
I updated my Oculus Quest 2 to Meta Quest 2 Version 60 this week. After updating, it always shows "Create a new boundary" and hangs there. No response on clicking the button. It was working well before updating. Is there a solution except Factory Reset?
@PrimiaVR Really off topic and not relevant to v60 update. Just set ODT res width to 0/default. If you have a strong enough GPU (4089/4090) you can add some super sampling (pixel density) together with moving the res slider full right. With my 4090 and Q3/QPro I can easily match VD so-called Godlike with Air Link at 200mbps Dynamic bitrate.
Both wireless options work well if you know how to properly setup each of them. It really comes down to personal preference as to which works best for you. Saying one is significantly better than the other is nonsense. If you really feel the need for 120Hz then obviously you currently need to use VD. I’ve never seen any benefits to using 120Hz, but each to their own I guess.
Also, complaining that certain update features are not rolled out to you demonstrates a very poor understanding of the rollout process.
I really wish novice posted would learn to how and where to post comments in this forum. Rant over, lol!
Please feel free to use whatever you think works best for you. However also please post your complaints and suggestions to more appropriate forum subsections, like Get Help and Ideas. Thanks.
To be honest, Meta supports recommending that we respond to this issue under the v60 update log to gain greater attention. We have already responded to this issue in the get help section, but it has not received much attention.
As @GetMess said, VD's encode resolution width is much higher than airlink/link, with VD being 3072 and airlink/link being up to 2000 (even if you set a higher value in ODT). This gap is significant. You cannot represent the views of all users, and we are also sharing the features we currently need, which does not conflict.
At the same time, the quest3 v60 still has compatibility issues with some WIFI 6E routers, which is also an urgent need for Meta to address. I think this is also a problem with the V60. Can't we always report the good news without the bad?Haha Communities need feedback, not just praise.
@PrimiaVR Sorry but I don’t buy into your encoding resolution issue. Starting a few months ago it was shown that the best thing to use in ODT was 0 (default). With both my QPro and Q3 I set these to 0 and set the res slider full right. Even without adding much super sampling I don’t see any difference compared to VD godlike.
If you do and think it improves things for you that’s great. Just like my opinions aren’t gospel, neither are yours mate.
