These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of September 5, 2024 and will be pushed to Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.
Required update for Meta Horizon social experiences
Beginning in October, v69 will be required for those enjoying Meta Horizon social experiences such as Horizon Worlds, Horizon Workrooms, and co-presence. Those who have not yet upgraded will be prompted to update to v69 before they can access these experiences.
“Hey Meta” wake word on Meta Quest
We’ve introduced a new way to invoke Meta AI by using your voice. When you turn on this feature in Meta AI Settings, you can say “Hey Meta” to engage with the assistant. Learn more aboutMeta AI assistant.
Window layout
In v67, we announced a new window layout for Meta Quest that was accessible from the Experimental Settings. Now in v69, this window layout will be turned on for everyone.
Spatial audio for windows
Audio from select windows will sound like it's coming from those windows' locations around you, which can provide richer and more realistic audio. This does not affect audio within fully immersive apps.
Remove apps from Library
Take care of visual clutter in your library with the ability to completely remove unwanted apps and worlds, including leftover apps that you’ve already uninstalled. Select “Remove from library” from the app or world’s library menu and make it easier to find and access your content.
Bluetooth quick pairing
You can now quickly pair supported Bluetooth devices like headphones, keyboards, mice, and gamepads when they’re in pairing mode and near your headset. Turn on [Get nearby device notifications] in your Bluetooth settings to get notified when a nearby device is available for pairing, and select the notification to pair.
Seamless multitasking
You can now multitask more effectively by keeping the universal menu and up to three windows open during immersive experiences. This can be used to look up information, watch videos, or chat with friends while staying engaged with your immersive games and apps. Seamless Multitasking can be enabled in Experimental Settings.
Content-adaptive backlight control
Improves contrast and battery life by adjusting the backlight of your headset based on the content you’re viewing.
Boundary improvements
Your boundary is more dynamic now with frictionless access to Meta Horizon Home. By automatically placing you into a stationary boundary when you visit your Home, you’ll no longer have to repeatedly find or create a room scale boundary. You’ll still be asked to create a room scale boundary when you open immersive experiences that require them.
Head tracked cursor interaction improvements
Improves the behavior of the head tracked cursor to stay hidden when it’s not wanted, such as watching a movie or using 2D apps, and appears when you need it.
Permissions history
You are now able to view the last 7 days of sensitive permission access by installed apps through a new panel within your Settings.
Privacy settings updates
We are making privacy settings easier to use with Meta Horizon Worlds, and simplifying settings for everyone in a few ways:
Control your privacy across Meta Quest and Horizon Worlds in a more unified way.
Control your visibility and status from the social tab.
Stylus support
Tracked stylus devices including Logitech MX Ink can now be used to interact with the universal menu. You can learn how to use it, configure its button mapping, and adjust its pressure sensitivity in Stylus settings.
Horizon Home: Oceanarium
Escape to the Oceanarium, our latest Horizon Home. Immerse yourself in an underwater world filled with seaweed and anemones that flow with the gentle ocean currents. Get up close and personal with sea turtles, manta rays, and even a majestic whale while you experience the beauty of the ocean like never before.
If you "Remove from library", it will uninstall the app and remove from the library. If you like to install the app, go to the Meta Horizon Store, and you can re-download the app.
They really are pushing Meta Horizon. I was in there once. For the Titanic simulation. It really did not interest me in the least. I'm not into the social aspect of the headset. I like doing meditation apps; traveling and watching movies.
OK, I got non-ptc v69 on my Q3 today (version v69.0.0.576.352). Still on v68 on both my QPro and meta link pc app. All seems to be working ok standalone and PCVR with Air Link. I like the remove from Library feature (got rid of a lot of demos) and the adaptive contrast experimental feature seems to work pretty well. Maybe not a huge difference, but in some cases blacks do look almost as good as my QPro with Local Dimming. Probably going to take me a little while to get used to Quest home windows popping up all over the place, lol! Anyway, so far so good.
Well just updated to v69. Other than the "new" windows I don't see anything new.
Meta AI is working again. Before yhe update it had stopped working giving an error for all non-commands. Ask for a joke about robots... error. Ask about the weather for a city... error. And there is no option to turn on "Hey Meta".
I know there are 2 ways of getting discord on the Quest 3, using the browser, or sideload it. One way I didn't know about was that "the spatial app" have discord and other apps.
I found that the activity log deleting option is not working in the headset but I'm able to delete it on the website. But I wonder if Meta AI is learning from us
Meta AI is still not working. I'm in the United States and 68 years old. So I don't know. Also passthrough is still grainy and the lux in my room registers at 80. Meta says it should be at least 30 again I don't know. I had to redraw my boundary like I have had to do every time I turn on my headset. I never get the option to save. Adaptive brightness is there but it too is grainy and videos are once again blurry. I contact support and never hear back. Of course it's difficult to take a photo of what I'm seeing as what I see is the internal and the quest 3 takes a photo of the external.
I also just had to verify my birthday. Users on Facebook are up in arms about it. It was a simple thing. I did it on the app in less than 20 seconds. Didn't they tell us they would do this months ago?
I use the Quest 3 top play DCS, it is a flight simulator. Since the last update I noticed a lower quality graphics. Kind of a blurriness which it was not there before the last update
Is PCVR a priority for Meta? Has anyone else notcied a degradation on PCVR graphics?
@Rotiaranie Clarity with msfs2020 looks the same to me with my Q3/rtx4090 = very good imho. Don’t know about DCS because I don’t use or like that combat flight sim app.
Maybe there will be a v70 at the event. Its an opportunity although not everyone has all the promised features of v69 yet, so it could be a full and complete rollout of v69.
@Rotiaranie No problem mate. One thing that came to mind is to check your meta link pc app device graphics settings. A little while ago when my PC app updated it moved these graphics settings to standard defaults = 72Hz refresh rate with the res slider mid-way around 1.0x. This floored me at the time because everything looked pretty blurry. I reset them back to what I normally use = 80Hz with res slider full right (rtx4090) and all was well again. You might also want to check your ODT settings as well. Cheers.
meta app device graphics is as it was, 80hz with res slider full right, I also have a rtx4090 but it is blurrier than it was three days ago. It must be something on my side or on the meta update
Anyway, I suppose now I have to wait until the next update to see it the blurriness goes away
@Rotiaranie Again, all looks the same (= very good) with v69 using Air Link at 200mbps Dynamic bitrate and Link at 500mbps encoding bitrate. Maybe check you ODT settings. I set it all to default/zeros except distortion = low, and encoding bitrate (0 for AL and 500mbps for Link. Also check your ingame settings of course.
@tanubon While the effects of adaptive contrast are subtle, I do see an improvement with Prime Video app with my Q3. Very similar to my QPro using local dimming. Like @MrBIO said, maybe avoid using Prime Video on the quest browser while in passthrough mode.
Not in passthrough. I'm talking about Prime Video App. If Adaptive Brightness is working in Prime Video, if I repeatedly turn the setting on & off, there should be a change in realtime. But completely no difference. I can see difference in Red Matter 2 even in non-black scene.
@MrBIO when we all was showing screenshots to Meta Support for the Adaptive Brightness Control was missing. Ever thought those other experimental setting might be on for future updates or future headset.
@tanubon I found I needed to restart the Prime Video app for the adaptive settings to take. I do seem to be able to turn it on/off while in my Quest home. With darkish environments like Thrones, the difference is very noticeable, and much better imho. Might also depend on your home brightness and contrast settings. I set mine in Thrones without adaptive contrast beforehand. Of course everyone’s eyes are different so yrmv.
We won't be required to go into horizon worlds will we? Because I honestly have no interest in it. Been in there once and won't go back. I prefer solo apps like meditation apps and all
Horizon world is another terrible looking App. it is looking cheap and childish like almost any meta app. Meta please go for more stylish realistic or minimalistic style. Way too much Color and sounds. I always felt like i was on a indoor playground.
Ok sorry for some reason my browser won't let me tag. I'm not into the cartoonish stuff which is what Horizon World is. Plus the number of kids that run around with unfiltered mouths is also off putting. If Meta went for realism then perhaps I wouldn't mind as there were a few good concerts there, like John Legend last year.
Hello, @Origami4gamin_TTV! It seems that the factory reset via headset's boot menu worked! I have spent around 3 hours in VR after the reset - so far so good, no random tracking glitches. Big thanks! @Unmutual
@MoonstoneWolf7@BadBoys_MFX If you don't like the free app Horizon Worlds, then just uninstall and don't use it. Some users actually seem to think its ok, lol!
@Origami4gamin_TTV I really haven't gotten into Horizon World yet and I'm not into social media right now. If I ever do, I'd def be your friend mate. Cheers.
For about 30 bucks to make nintendo switch to work on the hdmi link. Not bad, all from the Walmart store. Just downgrade the resolution a little to make it 60fps to work and stable.
I got non-ptc v69 on both my Q3 and meta link pc app a week ago but I still haven't gotten this on my QPro yet. Not sure why the long delay? Maybe meta is still working on a few QPro bugs.
@Rotiaranie I haven’t noticed any difference with my Q3/v69 (non-ptc). Were you using any hacks like sidequest and/or unofficial quest optimization app?
Hi. No, I was not using any hacks or side mods or anything like that, the image just got blurrier after the update. I have tried everything so my only hope is that the next update fixes the issue
