The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v55 is starting to roll out for Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 soon. Thanks everyone for all your feedback on our previous builds, we several bugs were identified in the last PTC and the solutions for some have shipped, while others are on the way!
Let's use this thread for collecting feedback on v55. Share your impressions and let us know if you see any issues. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting here if you notice anything going wrong.
We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!
Glad that your fix was to reformat your whole pc, but for most of us the problem is with Meta v54, which they need to fix. Reformatting a whole PC is not a real fix.
My point was that no amount of meta updates is going to fix the corrupted windows file ! They broke it ages ago but can't fix it with an update as the file is a windows system file that they broke (and god forbid they admit they did that!)
Or perhaps just a registry corruption or incompatible registry values. When running beta code.... always make a backup of the registry before installing untested code. You may have been able to solve your problem by just erasing any Oculus registry entries and allowing Oculus to create fresh ones.
A very good point you have made, I don't know much about the registry apart from it gets full of junk and redundant files, so for me the simple thing was a reinstall. The reason I came to this conclusion was I installed the oculus software on my laptop and it worked fine, then another user on this forum that I was chatting too with the same issues tired it and it worked for him too.
Noticed that I got the update last night just before shutting down… I think the Quest interface felt a bit snappier, but I took a quick run through the app I’m developing and didn’t notice a significant difference. I’ll see how it is with Link and Unity today.
Got the official v54 yesterday, was working fine with AirLink, so I decided to try v55. No issue until now. I have seen some posts about an increased resolution in home, I don't know if it's a placebo effect but I actually find it crispier so maybe it's true 🙂 Tested ten minutes of Half Life Alyx with Wifi 6, no issue, good frame rate, correct latency, stable 200Mbps bitrate (dynamic bitrate set to 155Mbps + a 50Mbps bitrate offset results in a good steady 205Mbps and low(er) latency. So far so good...
I got v55 last night on the headset and later for the PC app.
I had to do a restart to apply the new version and then noticed that my guardian was completely off. I tried to use the newly named ‘Boundary’ section to set it up again and clicking the options didn’t being up the normal setup mode and clicking adjust floor level did nothing. When I restarted again the guardian/boundary that I had before the version update reappeared. Having it off without knowing it wasn’t optimal for a play space surrounded by things that can be hit. 😉
Main menu can be moved once again using the bottom bar instead of the translucent border surrounding it from previous builds.
I was mapping a song in AT last night and the low power notification (that I do want to see) did pop up while I was in game. It hadn’t been appearing in game since the last android update builds, only on the notification window.
The search icon on the lower bar brings up some kind of search window for a second before it closes again, even after restarting the headset. Unusable at this point.
I think there is a new home called “Cyber City”. We got one after meta connect, but I don’t think I have seen this one before now. Still not sure where the mining town one went.
v55 seems nice but had to opt out of PTC today due to many disconnects of airlink. didnt matter what wifi I jumped on, 6ghz, 5ghz would just drop me out and disconnect wifi. Looking forward to the final release, going to stay off the ptc for now.
Just did a quick test with Link and Unity--no issues here, everything worked normally. I'm using cabled Link rather than AirLink (to keep my headset charged while I use it off and on all day), and my Unity project uses URP (Universal Render Pipeline) and Unity's XR Interaction Toolkit. I'm not using the Oculus integration package (someone mentioned that it may have been causing them issues). I tested the latest 2021 LTS version, as well as 2022 LTS. Unity 2022 LTS performs terribly in VR in the editor for me, but that's a separate issue (was already doing that before this update).
I really appreciate the response - thanks for testing it. Has your Oculus PC client software been updated to V55 (if there is one)? Mine says V54 in the General settings at the bottom. I think I saw someone on here say that they have a V55 - maybe it will correct itself when I get V55 on the PC s/w as well. I'll also try setting up a new project from scratch. For now, I'll assume it's some problem specific to my environment and not a V55 issue.
My PC app is on v55 (it updated itself last night). In the past, the PC app would work if you were within one version number of the Quest software, but I suppose in any given update, there could be some reason that doesn't hold true.
I'm on v55 (both quest 2 and pc app), i don't know if it's related to this version specifically, but lately steamVR games won't start properly from the oculus dashboard. The games display only on the monitor. If i want to play in VR I have to launch steamVR first and then boot the game.
so since v51 update we have been working on a fix for the custom launcher we have been working on to replace the standard oculus launcher.
something that you can sort your games to categorys and move every thing to custom screens v51 broke the drag and drop functionality which has took a while to find a workaround.
then i get v55 update today first thing i check is the launcher and low and behold meta devs have now broke yet another feature in the launcher now when i uninstall a game it force closes the launcher so it has has to be reopened everytime a game is uninstalled also meta browser no longer opens from it neither.
i understand you want to improve stuff but you guys are constantly breaking peoples work and to be fair 2 devs i know already gave up on making things till you get all the issues fixed you push updates and nothing seems fixed in the newer versions you just make more of peoples work break with every update....
With v55 on my Quest 2, I still sometimes get artifacting near the right edge of my view that didn't happen before v53. Brief flashes of white or multi color dots or dashes mostly arrayed vertically.
My Quest 2 has had that issue since the official V53 update was installed on it. I just installed the official V54 update on it late last night and didn't notice the white spot issue in the few minutes I was testing VD. I'll check again later today. So far that has been the only real issue I've had with my headsets since at least the official V50 update. I've not had the white spot issue on my Quest Pro, but haven't installed the V54 update on it yet to test for any possible wireless latency issues.
Is the new search icon on the bottom bar only accessible via the V55 PTC at the moment? I know it wasn't even clickable on my Quest 2 with the official V54 update.
Just updated to v55 on my quest 2 and the apps page no longer has that icon that lets you switch between installed/not installed/demo/unknown sources yet it is there on my quest pro with v55 ??? So I now longer access side quest etc.?
I still have it on my Q2 when I open the apps list, click the funnel and then select unknown sources from the drop down. If it isn't there, try shutting the Q2 down and restarting. I've had a couple oddities that required an extra restart to clear.
Restarted several times and no luck, even did a factory reset followed by several restarts nope nothing!? found a work around thou, in the apps window select the search bar that then opens a new window and within that window is the pull down menu to be able to select unknown apps etc.
Installed v55 PTC on my Quest Pro, but I still have a bug with colorful dots. They appear for a moment about once in a minute or two. I think this bug appeared after local dimming was introduced. I play via cable Link, 13900 4090 Win10 PC.
My headset still says V54 however the App library is all a mess. It doesn't show large icons and to get to unknown sources you have to click search and select it in the list. After launching an app or game, when you exit it no longer takes you back to the library screen. Then in settings>personalization>library. If you change the sorting, etc it does not stay set. It gets reset after launching a game and then opening the library again.
When you restart/shutdown the headset, it seems like the custom skybox picture isn't saved. You have to reselect it from the files section.
New Air Link note - there is now a confirmation code to pair the headset with the oculus PC app. I didn't notice an improvement with that connection playing PC games.
Got v55 today. My floor level has been shifting around ever since upgrading. I cleared all room settings after the upgrade, so that's not the issue. I first noticed the issue in Beat Saber when high walls came and I couldn't possibly bend down far enough to get under them. I then checked in the settings and found it thought I was 2.5m tall. I appreciate being considered tall for even just a moment, but I'm only 1.7m tall.
Resetting the floor fixed the problem for a while and then suddenly I was 2.2m tall. I'm considering doing a reset, to see if that fixes the problem.
I'd also really like to request that the old App Library be brought back. I absolutely hate the new library. It makes browsing for games so tedious. I shouldn't have to go to a separate filters view to see installed games and when using filters I want to see more than a handful of games at a time (I have a huge library).
following my first report on v55, In my opinion there is still work to do but fortunately v55 seems to have nothing to do, positively, with its predecessors v53 and v54.
I have to confirm what other users have also reported to whom the pixels at the borders of the FOV in pcvr have been presented. in my case especially in VD.
No network spikes and stuttering, I can play everything smoothly but unfortunately the pixels are annoying again.
Another report concerns the room setup. Everything has already misaligned 3 times and the tracking of the furniture has become less accurate. moreover when I go to adjust the dimensions of the objects by intruding or extruding their faces the result does not correspond to the real object; this is new to me because until v55 I have never encountered this difference.
For those who no longer see the drop-down menu in the applications section, just tap on the search bar at the top and the drop-down menus appear.
Those of you still having performance issues on v55: is Touch UI enabled in Experimental settings? Some users on the Virtual Desktop Discord have confirmed that at least on v54, enabling Touch UI seems to be the cause of the major performance issues, but simply disabling it doesn't solve the problem. Only a factory reset seems to do the job.
Can You give us an option to turn off mirror inside oculus home, and avatar? I just don't wan't these on my headset and an ability to customize would be great.
v55 broke how screen like USB debug prompt or rsa key prompt works. Wen one of these kind of screen open, it close in the background the activity which triggered the prompt. So we need to relaunch the activity
USB prompt no longer shows when connecting to a PC or Mac and the computers do not show the system as a removable drive to explore files. Also cannot install APK from any source. The quest prompt for installing comes up, but once you click it it just force closes.
This problem was in V53 also. At least the part where connecting to a PC doesn't show the quest to browse files. In Dev settings I turned off USB Prompt. After doing some sideloading, you have to reboot the headset to get access to it from the PC. Also I run this ADB command after the reboot and it works like a champ. adb shell svc usb setFunctions mtp
Has anyone noticed that tracking precision of Pro controllers has worsened in v55? Just browsing in menu and one controller becomes higher and more forward than another one, while I'm holding them next to each other. It feels very uncomfortable in games - when you move your arms and notice that an ingame arm moves slightly differently from what you feel.
I'm done with it, I left the PTC but then something strange happened. When I left beta channel and public update has been downloaded, an "Uninstalling" prompt appeared and after a restart the headset was reset - I lost all my apps, guardians, all the data, I had to see the tutorial once again. It looked like a factory reset but I didn't have to log into my account - I stayed logged in. So, it's weird. Who else had rolled back to a previous version - is it a normal behavior that you lose all the data and apps or was it some sort of factory reset?
@Exius86 Ya, that's normal behavior when you roll back to a previous version update. Bit of a pain, esp. if you haven't any cloud saves already in place.
I did notice a little controller instability when I first went to v55ptc with my QPro and Q2 but this seems to be slowly improving after a number of restarts. If you go with a Beta update I think it worthwhile playing with this for at least a week before throwing in the towel, lol!
Well I got V54 three days ago and for some reason I didn't notice the crappy library. I signed up for PTC yesterday for the heck of it. I do not plan to revert. Mine still says V54 so I must have not gotten V55ptc yet.
Oh, so it wasn't a factory reset. So, I still should perform a factory reset to get a clean install of public v54 and get rid of all unstable PTC versions residuals, right?
Been in PTC for several months but every last update became worse and worse. Don't want to risk my hardware and gaming experience anymore. Just want a stable firmware and stop updating it at all. Every update is like a lottery - you never know what's ruined this time.
I opted out of PTC due to lots of airlink drops and just general issues. When i did the opt out, it factory reset my device, but I couldnt resist v55 so i got back into the ptc and all the issues I had were mostly gone. wifi 6e still blows but all the airlink drops I was having are gone, as long as i stay on wifi 6(5ghz). So factory resetting does help if you are having issues. I have a Asus GT-AXE16000, and a nighthawk AXE300 both drop me telling access point temporarily full. I know its a quest pro issue, and not my router, but wifi 6(5ghz) is pretty rock solid.
A couple of times one controller doesn’t register when picking it up from sleep. I found if you close the headset down, return it to the charger and then reboot they are both there.

No need to factory reset unless you are still having issues. When you opt out of PTC and go back to a previous version it basically does a factory reset anyway.
HI, you can rest assured, everything is normal. on the basis of personal experience and what is written in the explanatory page of the ptc, the exit from the ptc foresees a rollback to the latest stable firmware which in this case should be v54, and a factory reset.
