The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v71 is starting to roll out soon for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3.
If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v71:
1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v71" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v71 issues too.
2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately.
Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.
Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.
We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!
Yet another PTC update here in the UK today and still nothing has changed!! No new features nothing at all !! still looks and operates like v69 (well sort of, still missing multi modal mode!) 5 days ago meta posted about new features and said these will start to drop from Monday, well it's now Wednesday evening and no one on any forum that i've found has seen it yet or at least any of the so called new features. Sort your **bleep** out meta!
Being able to use one controller and hand tracking at the same time, Meant to have been available several software versions ago but still no sign of it!
That's nice for you! If I had the toggle on either my Quest 2, Quest 3 or Quest Pro all on slightly different versions of meta's firmware i'd more than likely switch it on and it would work perfectly fine for me too.? but alas no such toggle or mode exist on any of my headsets here in the UK.
When editing a Meta Horizon World, the app keeps reloading the world every minute or so, causing me to travel to it over and over again. It saves any changes I've made to the world before doing so, but the constant interruptions are annoying.
I used Questlink in Quest 2. However, since this update, the quest link does not seem to be functioning properly. While playing the game using the quest link, the user is repeatedly forced to return to the home. Eventually, I can‘t even be able to use Questlink without restarting Quest2. In Quest2, it is nearly impossible to do Questlink with a wired connection.
Same here... seems that nothing has changed (retail).
@TomCgcmfc also the same, no update of the desktop app, nor update of Quest2. Only Quest3 firmware updates to 71.0.0.527.522 - maybe a misspelling at your side?
V71 has a purplish blue dot indication on the right side of the Time if mic being used for MetaAI as well showing after an app having permission. With a mic indication after asking for permission it will show as well on the top of quick setting
WoW a blue dot is the only thing anyone has found different form v69 !! shame only if you live in the USA as the rest of world doesn't get AI features either!!!
OK, finally got non-ptc V71 on all my current meta headsets today (Q3 and QPro) plus meta link pc app;
meta link pc app version v71.0.0.451.524
Q3 version v71.0.0.579.522 (1.27gb)
QPro version v71.0.0.578.522 (805gb)
Tested with a few standalone and PCVR apps (Oculus and SteamVR) with Link and Air Link. All seems to be working fine so far. I don't see any significant differences in performance. Only minor thing I don't like is that to power off I now need to select the power option since it initially only shows Sleep power down option. Not sure why this is the case??? Anyway, main thing is v71 didn't brick anything, lol! Cheers.
Aside; I see that there already is a PTC V72 thread (as usual, no release notes) and I guess we'll never see a final (non-ptc) V71 thread, lol!
@TomCgcmfc Confirming all your findings, also got the Meta Quest Link (desktop app) Update. Yeah, the power options are a bit confusing - mayby Meta tries to push the "always on" option. There were windows-driver updates and a new "RemoteDesktopCompanion.exe"...
@Origami4gamin_TTV Also got an update for the Q3 firmware... but it's a "huge" one (1.27GB). So the version climbs from 71.0.0.527 to 71.0.0.579...
Only difference - after power on the dash is really small, resetting the view makes it "normal" again.
And there is a "hidden" error each time the desktop app starts:
"(node:14324) MaxListenersExceededWarning: Possible EventEmitter memory leak detected. 41 oaf.data listeners added to [EventEmitter]. Use emitter.setMaxListeners() to increase limit (Use `OculusClient --trace-warnings ...` to show where the warning was created)"
Got the update for my Quest2 installed... 71.0.0.578 (1.08GB), same as Qpro from @TomCgcmfc but "bigger". I had to do a factory reset afterwards, because it was "hanging" all the time. This done everything works like a charm.
Also tested my Quest1... no updates at all, as expected (last update around 1 month ago). But... Air Link works as it should, which was very surprising 🤔
As I've wrote... last updade for Q1 was installed one month ago and still works with Air Link. And yes, support for Q1 officially ended on August 31, 2024.
I guess I just need to wait a little longer to get the update then. I'm very excited to test out some of these new features.
Also being able to lookup what your specific PTC update adds, changes, and or fixes, would be a good way to let people know what to look for and test in their specific PTC version. Idk just an idea I had.
... Still see absolutely no change anywhere, including no Remote Desktop option in quick settings or rounded corners in the UI.
Does anyone know what each of the number sections in the versions mean? I ask because I seem to have a 605 (or 612) as the 4th section, which is higher than all of you reported. 🤷:male_sign:
I also got further non-ptc v71 updates earlier today on both my Q3 and QPro;
Q3 (6.04mb) version v71.0.0.612.529
QPro (38.51mb) version v71.0.0.606.522
Didn't notice any significant differences. My QPro home panel/dashboard size looks a lot more like v69 (which I like).
While Q3 still has the smaller panels that I don't really like. At least you can use the expand icon to make it a lot larger, and then you'll also have a bottom background dimming slider. Edit, after going in/out/in with Air Link the panel /dashboard size seemed to go back to the v69 larger version. did a restart and this seems to have stuck ok. Go figure, lol!
Edit #2; Q3 changed to version v71.0.0.605.522 QPro to version v71.0.0.606.522 Not sure why??? Seems to be small updates every time I power down, lol! Not sure what's going on with all this. In any case, at least everything seems to work ok.
V71.600 did have one change that was noticeable and mentioned on X. Spotted in PTC V72, but it was effective on V71 newest version. They change the name of "Point Cloud Data".
Here's my opinion, V72 official release will give us the full UI as well with additional details they are redoing on the OS. That means V72 will be releasing earlier then expected, but this a guess, just because V71.600 is not allowing me to rolled over to the PTC V72. Unless they are full house on Beta tester
