The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v72 is starting to roll out soon for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.
If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v72:
1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v72" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v72 issues too. 2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong. We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!
@Choleni But most likely Q3 has been rolled back to V71 when they notice the issue, but you are right on the Announcement, misread it. I believe if new Q3 users has the same issues it would be rolled back as well.
@Choleni@Origami4gamin_TTV My non-ptc v72 has remained, not rolled back. All seems to still be working ok, just a few startup screen flashes, and my QPro is still on the older UI.
My Q2 (which I don't use much anymore) updated to v71 (from v69) a few weeks ago, without any problems, and never did update to v72. I might check it out later today to see if it gets this new version, and report back.
@Choleni I checked for updates on my Q2 today and it still remained on non-ptc v71 and works fine. I guess non-ptc v72 will get rolled out to it eventually. No big hurry since I'm not really using it much anymore esp since my Q3 and QPro are already on v72 and are both working fine.
@TomCgcmfc I only use the Q2 to play Beat Saber on PC... although I love the Q3's controllers for all other games... I can't play Beat Saber with it, too light, I need more weight😂
Hey guys Wondering if anybody else has had this experience or not. On the new Update of Ptc 72 If you hover over. Quest apps such as Browser, Meta, Horizon store, etcetera. It says not installed. But the apps are available in my app library and I can access and run them. The one glitch I have found so far With this is that in the quest browser, I can no longer access my computer via remote desktop. Which I was able to access without trouble previously.
But now when I try to load it, it appears to completely close the browser.
@wolfb1978 Had the same issue before, I factory reset to fixed it, but alot of people on here would frown upon the factory reset. Maybe they have other options or opinion.
@Buetigame even though you still on V72, you can't even tell until you turned on PTC. Especially after factory reset, it shows the build was created on January 6th even though I installed on the 10th. Especially I'm still on V71 as well @TomCgcmfc for our Q2. Still waiting for Q2 to release the V72. PTC is full for Q2.
@Origami4gamin_TTV I really don’t see your point about needing to go PTC. This certainly isn’t something I plan to ever do again. Sorry if that invalidates all my observations and opinions.
Also, my Q2 is still on non-PTC v71. Still no v72 update is currently available.
@Buetigame Glad your good old Q1 is still working well with Link. I retired mine +8 months ago. OLED was nice, but way too much SDE, for me anyway. My QPro with local dimming does almost as good blacks, but with much better clarity. Each to their own I guess. Cheers
@Origami4gamin_TTV Sorry mate I still don’t get this. Maybe I’m missing something.
I just got new v72 updates today. My QPro to build 5054538.11390.530 and Q3 to build 5047332.15120.510
I can’t say if noticed any significant differences. My QPro is still on the old UI panels. I may try out my Q2 later but for me this isn’t a high priority right now.
@TomCgcmfc I'm not really "playing" with it, I'm technically playing with it to see what such an old and discarded device still can do today. Look at Galaxy Kart for example (released 08/2024 and bougt today with a hefty 90% off)... you can buy, install and play it on a Q1, but the performance isn't "that great" (which is an understatement!).
Previously you have to take care, that the desktop app version is not too far away from firmware on the device. That has changed (a year ago or two?) and there is no problem to use the pretty old Q1 with v50 as a PCVR device with the actual v72 desktop app. Even the store is functional as seen with Galaxy Kart today.
That's a good one and Meta seems to care about that.
Technically you're so right, it's pretty "old" (mostly in terms of performance). But the OLED reminds me of better days like with your pro... and seeing it hurts me in two ways:
the deep blacks and the outstanding contrast
the very annoying SDE along with the low resolution and also the ghosting
Every three to six months I get it out, look for firmware updates and if everything works... then put it back. After some days I forgot about the OLED and have uncompromising fun with the Q3 🤣
The Q2 does as a 2nd device... to play with friends and for backup. Really, I wouldn't live without VR!
This has been one of the longest waits between PTC releases in a long time! Not surprised really considering the total **bleep** show this last one was..!! Well Us people in the this PTC did shout and scream and jump up and down and send lot and lots of messages about it too them and as per normal they completely ignored the lot of us as if we where talking **bleep**!! Hell what do we know eh ? we only do this for the love of it any way ! ? We enjoy have faulty equipment and stressing ourselves out ! Hey Meta Try listening next time!!!! Nar won't read this either!?! That's the real problem with the world today! the power is in Our hands yet we don't use it ! because we won't stand together and they know it and they do everything in there power to stop us from standing together because if we did they know the game would be over!
I got 2x new v72 updates today (non-ptc, both ~1.3Gb downloads).
QPro build 5054528.12560.330. Included Pro controllers updates.
Q3 build 5047332.16210.510. Included firmware (green progress bar) and Q3 controllers updates.
All seems to be working fine; standalone, PCVR wired with Link and wireless with Air Link.
Can't say I noticed any differences. My QPro is still on the old UI (like v69).
I haven't tried my Q2 yet because I don't use it much anymore and it's connected with Link on my home office laptop (Alienware 17r4 with gtx1060 6 Gb and 32Gb 2400 ram). If get time I'll try this later and report back. Cheers.
Q2: Build 5127210.8540.150 to 12510 - second update so far (no changes seen) Q3: Build 5047332.12760.510 to 16210 - third of v72 with controller updates
Both with a big update package (1.3GB, not precisely sure with Q2) and firmware upate while booting. Everything works as good as before... like a charm and with new UI 😉
@TruFoox Meta often skips version numbers. No big deal and nothing to worry about imho.
@Buetigame I checked my basically retired ~4yo Q2 and it updated from V71 to v72 today. Same build that you already noted. Seems to be working fine. Cheers.
Nothing major to report with non-ptc v72 except I finally got the new UI panels with my Quest Pro (same build number, so just a rollout thing I guess). I still get the extra environment screen flash before it takes me to the 'confirm your boundary' panel. Occasionally I've found that once I get there I can't click on anything and then need to do a hard power off (hold power button for about 5 seconds). Works fine after restarting. I've filed a bug report on this.
@TomCgcmfc same issues with me on the extra blinking screen. As well when I set up the headset after the factory reset, I can't click on next selection unless I reboot the device.
I mentioned this change in the startup sequenced several weeks ago. Prior to v72 you'd get the Meta logo, three scanning dots then passthrough mode with the confirm boundary window. Now it is usually Meta logo, flash of passthrough, virtual environment with Universal Menu for a few beats then the tree dots with black screen and finally the passthrough with boundary confirmation. Some variation will flash a black screen in there to.
