The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v74 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.
If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v74:
1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v74" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v74 issues too. 2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong. Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues. We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!
First thing to mention is in the immersive mode, you now loose your keyboard cut out so can only use passthrough.... Also the immersive sounds ( I am using Oceana) come and go through the built in speakers....
Also using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the mouse on the Meta browser is nowhere to be seen.... way off the viewing area to my left inside the headset, so i must navigate to (this box for instance) using hand/physical controllers in the headset 😞
@Jonalt.484 when I updated the firmware, I had the old UI. After leaving it alone in about half of my day, it install the new UI out of nowhere. But everyone is different I noticed
This morning my quest 3 updated to v74 with updates for the controllers. After an hour or more game session I decided to give it a little charge even though the battery was 86%, the charge light was flashing orange instead of solid orange, what does this mean? As I watched the change go down to 83 to 81%.
similar charging issues as Dabull. tried hard reset a few times and it started charging a little, from 66% to 76%, then started blinking again. haven't factory reset yet. never had charging issues prior.
@Jonalt.484 yes if you keep your PTC to stay on, with PTC V74 installed, and do a factory reset. It should be able to show the new UI after a setting it up again.
V74 has introduced a bug in my Q3 headset. Everything was working fine prior to the update on Friday. Now I get a freeze in all PCVR games every 32 seconds approximately. I am using Virtual Desktop and Steam VR. I have confirmed this by using my Q2 headset and the issue is absent. This is 100% related to the Q3 on V74. This requires urgent attention as all my games are unplayable at the moment!
@Jonalt.484 If it turned on in the mobile app PTC, Yes, factory reset from the phone app. But it works for me but it doesn't want to stay permanently on. After awhile it goes back to the original UI
v74 Breaks WiFi connection stability for PCVR usage (Does not seem to cause WiFi problems in general, just with PCVR use)
After the v74 update when I am trying to play anything via a Wi-Fi connection through Virtual Desktop, Steam Link or Oculus Link connection on my PC it will stutter/freeze for about .5/1 second every 10-15 seconds. This makes any game unplayable.
I have tested it with several games and it occurs on every one.
Never had the issue before. Was playing HL-ALEX on it right before the update was applied. Tested it after I read another forum post about the stutter. I can confirm it is occurring.
i7 14700F / 64GB / GTX 4070TI Super - Dedicated 6e router connection
I have tested further and found that if you have a direct connection using a cable, the issue is not occurring. This would suggest that the issue is somehow related to changes that were made in the WiFi stack when programming was being completed. There are no settings I could find or adjust that would fix the issue.
I had read on a few forums that by leaving from the PTC and dropping back to v72 that it would fix the issue. I can confirm that this is correct.
I removed my account from the PTC. This will show in the software update that v72 is available and will install at the next restart.
****WARNING**** When it restarts it will erase your Quest and install v72, You will then have to setup the quest again. Make sure you have your backups done.
This stutter/freeze issue will only affect PCVR games. As far as I had seen there were no issues playing local installed games.
Just wanted to share with Meta and other users my findings.
@BTSxBTS I am having the same issue. The secondary account will not load any games. It's like all of the sensors aren't working properly. It won't engage hand tracking while in a game. On the home screen and navigating the Quest UI, the hand tracking and sensors seem to work fine. When a game is launched, it only shows a square screen directly in front of you and no hand tracking.
Flip back over to the primary "device owner" account and it works just fine. Only noticed this after the v74 update.
@slam0808@d0ggThat sounds like a problem I have on my Quest 3 but I'm still on v72 and I use a Link Cable. I get stutters that weren't there prior to v72 and they seem to happen in the quest since the debug performance overlay doesn't show any sign of it being a performance problem. Do you also play with a link cable? Does it stutter there too? I thought about updating to v74 and I'm hoping it will solve my problem.
My Q3 won't charge completely and is throwing a USB water error since installing V74. How do I go back to V72? No water has ever been near the Q3 at all. 😞 Out of warranty, ended in October.
@zugo360 If you are using the Link cable, v74 shouldn't cause the stutters I posted about. The stutters I was experiencing only happened when I was connecting via WiFi. I tested with a cable and they didn't happen.
I'm not sure if v74 will fix your issue, but you could give it a try.
Keep in mind that there have been other reported issues with v74. (read through the posts here and on reddit)
Anyone else had this? Since PTC V74, after a while the headset just goes blank (black screen) while in an App (several times in Youtube app and also in Dawn of Jets). Power button doesn't respond and the only way to fix is a soft reset. 😞
I hope there is an update to solve this problem with virtual desktop streaming soon. There is even a post on the virtual desktop discord saying there is an issue with PCT v74.
