The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v74 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.
If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v74:
1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v74" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v74 issues too. 2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong. Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues. We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!
I don't know if it is related to v74, but since I updated to this version, the Files app also updated, and now it only opens images/videos in the same windows, but not even maximized, and it is not possible to resize the window anymore.
I know we now have the Gallery app, but it also does not allow resizing the window.
Its interesting to read this. When I spoke to support, it felt like they had never heard of any of these issues before, and yet...people have been in here reporting on them for a week. Do they not relay any of these messages internally?
I've been having the same problems as a lot of you. The micro lag when connected to virtual desktop is frustrating, but the worst is that its completely messed up my charging. But i'm actually super relieved to have found this post to see that it really IS the firmware update. Support has been dodging answering that like the plague.
I have to ask though. Some of you were able to roll back via leaving the PTC. But for me, i left, and my headset didn't give me any options to roll back to v72. I left the beta channel, checked, then today I even reformatted, thinking that it might download the older version upon first launch, but it re-updated right back to v74...is there something I'm doing wrong? I can't sideload either. (Be careful with that, it acts super finicky, and i thought I may have bricked my headset as I couldn't get it out of sideloading mode for a while)
This new build fixes the glitches and apps showing uninstall (even though they are installed) Idk if it fixes the lagging of the wifi sped. I know when I start up the headset it will give me the lost connection on the horizon feed try again.
ggodin is right, there are massive spikes in virtual desktop for pcvr-streaming with v74ptc (build xxx...11190.xxx) on quest 3.
don't install v74ptc if you want to use vd on your quest 3!!! i made a video and had around 2 major spikes in one minute, i did not test if they are periodic.
Since i'm locked in with no ability to roll back, i'm just hoping this new update brings back my charging. I turned off my headset last night at 90%, left it shutdown and sitting until 10am today. When powering back up, it had dropped back down to 74% whilst off, lol. Dropped again to 60% in about 5 minutes. I turned PTC back on on the app, and it updated to the latest build. Putting it on the charging dock to charge for an hour, to see if it acts normally. My main fear is that i'm actually damaging the cells when attempting to charge with a faulty BMS, since it can't regulate it correctly. I don't want a battery fire.
@Origami4gamin_TTV Thank you, I got it in the end! Strangely enough for me, i had to go up to go down. I tried many times last night before the new build rolled out, but it wouldn't show up to roll down. But when i tried again today, the latest build popped up, so I got that, then went off, on, off. Gave it a sec, mulling around menus, and then v72 popped up!!
I just came back to let people know, for everyone that was having those charging problems/battery light flickering/etc, the rollback to v72 fixed it for me. But i'd like to give an opinion, and I hope it doesn't come off as fear mongering as that's not my intention. I may be overreacting, but; the battery issue, for me, crosses into the dangerous category. I don't consider it to be just a normal glitch, or graphical error. Those are annoying for sure, but anything to do with the battery or its management system is an immediate red flag/pull out moment for me until I have more detailed information about what's happening. So if that's a side effect/glitch you're dealing with, i'd err on the side of caution, and roll the headset back for now.
I didn't get a chance to test the voltage, so I'm not sure if the glitch was causing the headset to either charge to full battery but report a lower percentage, or if it was limiting the charge completely and/or trickle charging from around 70%, but if it in fact was full and was overcharging the cells, after a pretty short time, that could potentially lead to swelling or other damage. Meaning there could be the potential for things like rapid degradation of cells or in a worst case scenario, even the risk of it becoming a fire hazard.
I only know the basics when it comes to BMS' and batteries, as I ride PEV's, but i'm no pro. So anyone who has more knowledge in this area, please feel free to correct me. I'm always happy to learn and I'm happy to be proven wrong. I just want people to be safe. And as i've seen effects of battery fires before, I'd rather others skip that riveting experience.
Not in PTC at all, yet V74 pushed out to my Quest, unable to roll back, despite 3 hard resets.
Same issues with airlink, latency and frame drops.
Nothing to do with my system, i7 1200k, Z690 gigabyte gaming, 4070ti super, 64gb ram DDR4 4000, all drives SSD, dedicated ax6000 router, internet FFTD at +1.0 GB.
It was flying along before Meat Squet messed up with V74
Having problems switching from main profile to 2nd account on both Q3 and Q2. Headsets lock up on both units since I got V74 and will crash to primary account home environment. Menu will not work and i can only preform a hard reset.
I posted in another thread about v74 and airlink and pclink issues. unfortunatley after updating my Q3 headset became locked to 72hz even though the meta quest link app was set to 120hz. I confirmed this by running Oculus debug tool which showed fps locked to 72, just to make sure it wasnt user error I tried a factory reset but it made no difference, in the end oping out of PTC and rolling back to V72 fixed it and Oculus debug tool is now showing 120 fps when running in airlimk at 120hz.
TLDR; Update V74 Locks Q3 headset to 72hz when in link mode.
You can now add a Browser page as an app to the Library under All.
Browser menu (3 dots), add this page to your library selection, and make sure the URL has Netflix.com/browse and add. It would be listed in the library under the All.
Netflix app that no longer supported actually letting me go directly to the browser form? I'm guessing they made a fix for it to go directly to the browser
I updated to v74 and I'm experiencing the following issues:
Wireless connection issues with PrismXR Puppis S1 – I'm getting lag, even though I never had connection problems before. I used to play via Steam Link with the AV1 codec at 120FPS in high resolution without any quality loss.
Meta Quest Link locked at 72Hz – Even though I set it to 120FPS using the Debug Tool, the performance panel shows it's running at 72FPS, and the lower frame rate is very noticeable.
Air Link connection instability – I need to attempt the connection more than twice before it works.
Unable to install APK files from unknown sources – I can now only install them via ADB from a PC.
HorizonOS screen flickering – The interface randomly disappears and reappears.
While I'm still on non-ptc v72 with both my QPro and Q3, I did try the meta-link app beta v74 today. I didn't see any improvements and it seemed to have a few more stutters. So, back to non-beta v72 I went and now all's well again.
Between the number of issues currently raised with ptc v74 I wouldn't be surprised to see another version bypass to v75 in the near future. Time will tell I guess.
Is there any point in posting a bug on here anymore ? do meta read these or do we need to send bug reports via another method now ? Well just in case someone is reading, since updating to v74 you can't install APK's inside the headset anymore! it opens a blank window and does nothing! (this has been reported on other sites by other users too) For example Quest Games Optimizer no longer can update itself (developer has noted this on his web-page due too v74)
@Moriarti4 Quest Games Optimizer site stated "when installing the application with Mobile VR Station" I don't use Mobile VR Station to install QGO the last time I installed it. But another thing, it depends on if QGO support V74, since it's still on PTC, meaning Meta haven't fully released the firmware to all software to support it.
@origami4gamin_ttv i spoke with Meta they are doing a RTA on my headset but i don't understand how missing an option in the new ui is hardware and not os level... ill be sending it tomorrow but i have noticed recently that i cant paste in login forms on the browser now no option for pasting from my 1password odd.,,
Instead of the normal restart after installing, it just download directly into my headset, no restart popped up. It's up to date, showing the V74.1017 and the build number lol
@Origami4gamin_TTV Interesting I sent my Quest 3 to Meta yesterday and I am using my wife’s 3S. If I’m on my profile the UI has no option in Camera settings for include mic audio. But on my wife’s profile she has it. Same headset too!
@PenguinInChicago - on the same note - I use multiple accounts on my headsets, too. As a hobbyist developer, my test users are setup as accounts on my Pro and Q3. ALL three of the test accounts have the "hide" feature on apps in their library, a feature that I have been wanting since it was released almost a year back. Very frustrating. I have 176 listed apps in my library from the app store. The vast majority of which I will never use again, and I desperately want to hide most of them from my list.
