The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v74 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.
If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v74:
1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v74" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v74 issues too. 2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong. Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues. We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!
@JeffNik Yeah I am frustrated that I had to send my headset to Meta and use my wife’s Quest 3S when it is likely a UI/OS level issue and not hardware related. Meta is looking into it and will email me within 5 days
@Choleni - nope. Neither "hide" nor "remove". I put in about 5 months of back and forth with Meta support and they were .... let's say.... less than helpful.
As @PenguinInChicago is saying, it's very interesting how some features are present depending on the headset, and others are present depending on which ACCOUNT is running, and as a user you don't have control over it.
Must be nice! 😊 I definitely don't have the "remove" option - just "uninstall". I wish I could figure out if everyone has "remove" or "hide" or if it's one of those features that will EVENTUALLY get to everyone, and it's just not my time yet.
@JeffNik I got an email back and again they are trying to say it’s a hardware issue. It’s most definitely not a hardware issue, I think they think I am saying that the mic doesn’t work, that’s not the issue LOL the new ui is missing elements because something is wrong and it appears to be with my account not the hardware! LOL hardware works just fine! I asked for a credit for the time they have wasted of mine! They had me ship my headset but I have to go without it until they get my headset wasting more time and energy argh
Yeah - I wasted 5 months (no exaggeration) in emails back and forth to support trying to make them understand that I don't have "hide" apps as an option unless I log in as one of my test users (which I thought would help them understand). Screenshots etc didn't help... "In THIS screenshot you see the option that I want but don't have" seems pretty straightforward. It didn't help that not even once did I get the same rep twice - EVERY email was from another person that may or (probably didn't) may not have read the ticket history at all - and every other response was "try re-formatting" or "try getting out of the PTC". In the end, they put $30 app store credit in my account and closed my ticket without asking me. <smh>.
I hope you get your mic issue ironed out. This whole "every user and headset" has different features available thing has GOT to be a nightmare for them when it comes to troubleshooting.
@PenguinInChicago your wife is a Q3S, I feel like the reason why PTC is full because they sold more Q3S then the Q3. Because I was able to rolled my second headset on different account to PTC.
I got a feature I have been wanting for it to come back, the "Remove apps from library". I disable Developer Mode yesterday, I don't know if that was the reason or just another gradual update. It's showing on V72 as well PTC V74
Must be different versions of V74 as the latest update version of QGO on my Q3 still won't update.!?! but this doesn't surprise me as meta is known for sending out different version in the PTC to different areas. Good God we are really stupid and desperate for the latest gadget ain't we ? that fact we put up with this totally blind testing is a total joke! I mean for crying out loud the last update killed a lot of headsets and here we are again stumbling around in the dark of the meta PTC..! It's like playing Russian Roulette each time you update! you spin the barrel hoping you won't blow up virtual brains out..!! lol
@Moriarti4 It says in the release notes of the new version of QGO that it still won't update in V74. You need to update to 12.2.3 from an outside method. THEN it will function correctly for updates at that point.
@stefan.flegel - I'm curious how many apps it takes to overload the library system. 🙂 How many apps do you have on your list? If I factory reset and then look at the "not installed" list - its 167 apps long.
Had to drop out of V74 PTC and roll back to V72 as had the following problems relating to pro controller support, both documented in bug threads.
1. Pro controllers not tracking, have to reboot them multiple times to get them to track. If I switch to hands (i.e. put controllers down) tracking often doesn't resume without rebooting controllers.
2. Haptic feedback for pro controllers greatly reduced.
Important to fix both issues prior to full release to avoid continuing to break pro controller support on updates
I've disabled automatic updaters for now, I'm waiting to know if all v74 issues (apk installation and PCVR stuttering with Virtual Desktop) have been fixed.
@Star.Knight I also posted on one of my Reddits, I had one person say Meta fixed it. About 30 minutes later another person posted and said that it looked like it was fixed but the stutter came back after they were playing for a while. They are going to play for a bit and see if it keeps happening.
I have found a very handy workaround to the missing "always include mic audio" in camera area of settings. If you now go to the camera app and select record video it will popular asking if you want to always include mic audio and afterwards you will see it in settings. This should trigger with all ways to initiate recording video including the controller gesture but it doesn't. But i hope this helps others
Luna said "Meta seems to be rolling out a change on v72+ that moves the Power Options screen to be an overlay of your current VR/MR space rather than teleporting you to a black void.
(I believe they actually tested similar for Home envs 10+ versions ago but it was reverted)"
The power option gotten smaller in size after I rolled back to V72 yesterday for testing.
With the new UI, I say the "expanded quick actions" looks amazing. I have think this feature is amazing to keep on. I have heard people complain about it being 'buggy' but never have the issue. It's too bad they don't have it on the "wrist meta button" feature.
