The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v74 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.
If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v74:
1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v74" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v74 issues too. 2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong. Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues. We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!
Also Meta AI works smoothly in this newest update. Since it was first released, it wasn't letting me use the "Wake word" unless I reboot after turning it on. No more reboot required for me.
Great to see PTC v74 rolling out! Hopefully, this update brings solid improvements, but bugs are always part of the process. Reporting issues with the right tags will definitely help smooth things out. Looking forward to seeing how performance and features evolve—maybe one day, we’ll even get VR experiences as customizable as milkshake flavors!
I got a new version of v74.1019 and it refused to charge above 84%. Forcing a reboot from the USB menu on my Q3 does not seem to correct it. I hope the release version corrects this.
Edit: Forcing a power off via the USB menu and charging whilst powered down looks like its working with a solid amber light but there is no charging. Perhaps the battery charge is reported wrongly.
@andythw and to whoever had issues with headset draining quickly in the past, as Luna stated, it's probably have to do with the headset constantly doing update in the background that you don't even noticed. Since everything is set for gradual update. The headset might get bogged down on updates and will drain the battery faster. We have received alot of new features since V69, and missing features, and it might be trying to push these updates.
I was wrong, this mornings update of v74 charged past 84% once but since using my Q3 and draining the battery below 80% charging stops at 82% complete with flashing orange charge light. I am hoping that this will be fixed as I have tried a boot via the USB menu as well as a power off. Nothing seems to work.
Has anyone been able to cast via USB (alt mode) as per the v74 release notes. I have V74.1019 and I have had no luck. I also don't seem to have any multi room support so I'm wondering if the update has even been applied at all. I have also tried V74.1020 on the PTC but same issue. I have a Quest 3 (128 Gb).
I see what you mean on the Meta Quest Pro Controllers:
V72 does have some issues on the tracking time to time, tracking vanished and reappear after I push the Menu and Meta buttons. (I was having issue trying to connect them to the Q3, no power indicator showing up, lol. I had to hold down the menu button and the Meta button for 12 seconds for it to work.)
V74 tracking just completely broken as of right now.
I'm having an issue with the external usb microphone working at the same time as using external earbuds that also have a dongle. The microphone is the hollyland lark m2 and the earbuds are soundcore vrp10. I'm connecting both dongles into a small splitter on AliExpress:
USB3.1 Type C Male to Dual Female Power Data Splitter Adapter Up Angled Compatible with Steam Deck Laptop 10Gbps
I had this when I first got v74.1019 charge stopped at 80% odd then I got v74 and I was able to charge to 100%. Then for some reason I got v74.1019 again and charging stopped at 72%. Today I have v74 and charging goes to 100%. Look at my messages above.
It was all automatic I checked the firmware in the morning and had an update overnight. I far as I know v74.107 and v74.1019 are PTC versions and v74 with no decimal point is the release version. Why I went back and forth I don't know.
Hi so i don't really know where else to post this but i think one of the updates got my quest 2 stuck in a boot loop? Like I've tried doing everything recommended: sideloading update, factory reset, sitting and letting ot charge for a few hours and nothing is working. I'm unsure if the warranty has expired but I'm going to ask my brother who got it if the warranty is still in effect if so that could help. I've seen people elsewhere talk about it being a software issue? I had been playing just fine a few weeks ago and then i got home one day and bam stuck in a boot loop.
I got a non-ptc v74 update on my Q3 earlier today (still on v72 with my QPro). Only problem I found with my Q3 was that both Link and Air Link were stuck on 72Hz refresh rate, no matter what I set it to. The solution for me was to go into the meta link pc app beta tab and enroll in the meta link beta program v74. After this everything worked fine. Fortunately my QPro seems to work fine with this beta. I have filed a bug report on this.
I have an update listed as available on my Quest 3. v74 standard release (I dropped from the PTC).
I currently have all the update switches turned off and it hasn't updated itself yet (it is dated as install on the 6th). So I am hoping I stay at v72.
I am worried it is going to push through and I am going to lose my PCVR and have all of the bugs I have been reading about.
I have recived v74 build 5070966.18330.510 on March 7th I dont see any new features I am still patentinly waiting for the feature to add websites to my libary tired and sick of waiting for it to come to me I wish they can just give it to me
@TomCgcmfc I've received the v74.1020 (build 5070966.18330.510) yesterdy night on my Q3. No update for the MetaLink-DesktopApp, which stays at 72.0.0.1105.353.
So I can confirm, nothing other than 72Hz possible, doesn't matter what is set in the app.
SteamLink on the other side, works as it should... but that's not my favorite to do PCVR.
Hopefully they will release v74 desktop app soon! (I never speak about PTC, always retail channel)
Updated to v74 (release version). Quest 2 headset.
When I go into setup - devices - controllers the options for thumbstick angle and thumbstick range and deadzone crash either to the Universal Menu or with the popup "Settings keeps stopping"
Restarting the headset doesn't help.
Unwilling to do a factory reset as these are a waste of time and have never solved any of the problems I have ever had.
Join the PTC or wait until the Meta Update Gods deigns to update your unworthy headset.
Meta has been adamant in saying the update rollouts are NOT done by region. Owners of multiple headsets bear this out since their headsets often do not update at the same time.
I compared the version/build numbers on firmware in that Firmware Archive and they are only PTC versions, not the official releases.
And if you try to sideload the firmware from Meta's software update page it will load the version that is on your headset unless an update is available for your headset. In which case you may as well updated it as usual.
I cannot remove games from my list (When I hit the 3 dots and say "remove > Uninstall and Remove from Library", it just keeps popping back up seconds later ON my list. I didn't have this issue with the previous update...
I also cannot seem to, for the life of me, access apps from the device owner. Device owner -has- checked App Sharing, but I still cannot access their stuff, and it asks me to install it separately instead? But even then, it still doesn't work, it just says "installing" and does nothing, so I couldn't even try it as a way of troubleshooting.
Android keyboard / input method stopped working on v74 (tried GBoard and Weixin IME). They do not show up when an input on an android app is selected (they showed up properly before this update).
This is very important bug because it is the only way I can type Chinese on Quest 3 since the stock keyboard does not support Chinese.
Additionally, opening Weixin IME will cause the system to freeze and force reboot.
If you have multiple profiles DO not update to v74, I can confirm on quest 2 and 3s if you have multiple profiles and your not on the main one, if you join a game then quit your menu will dissappear causing you to restart headset
I see Meta brought back the indicator in the App Library if an app has been updated. A small white dot in the upper right corner of the app's tile. Previously a slightly larger blue dot would appear. Nice.
Quest Games Optimizer goes one up and shows the date when the update was applied. Nicer.
I just tried to add a new account to my headset then when I switch I get all these pop-ups crashed then I get sent to the main account home. After all that I literally can't open the power option menu I just have to force power off, this happens anytime I try to go on the new account
