It’s been 12 years since Bulletstorm first launched its unique brand of hilarious ultraviolence. And today, Incuvo transports players back into the shoes of hot-headed space mercenary Grayson Hunt—literally—with the launch of the new VR version of the game on Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro. I still recall the time when I impulsively rented this game from Blockbuster, I was simply looking  for something new to play. Little did I know that I would become utterly captivated by the sheer madness of this game. Bulletstorm turned out to be a hidden treasure that I'm eagerly looking forward to immersing myself in and  literally kicking some enemy butts in VR!

Grand Champion

Beware that Bulletstorm is a rushed title and had many issues at launch. Even so severe that devs were forced to make a public statement:

Right now the game has very low ratings for all platforms, and being priced at $40 may be considered a bad joke.

I'm fortunate to be able to by all the games I want, and I bought the PCVR version. It does work flawlessly with my Rift CV1, and the game probably was targeted Rifts and Quest for PCVR. Index also works fine, but has more issues than my CV1.

If you don't care much about $40 and love Bulletstorm, do give it a try and expecting the worst you may be positively surprised, lol. If $40 is a lot of money to you, then await the first patches and a sale.

I thought the trailers also looked problematic and low-end, which I why I did not add this game to my thread about the most wanted VR games in 2024.

Btw, the recommended system requirements are very high:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-11400F / Ryzen 7 3800XT
    • Memory: 32 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GeForce RTX 3060 or equivalent with 8 GB of video RAM
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 12 GB available space
    • Sound Card: DirectX compatible
    • VR Support: Meta Quest via Cable Link and Air Link & Valve Index
    • Additional Notes: Support for Steam Link and Virtual Desktop not available on launch day

Here're a few screenshots from the PCVR version I took while wearing the Index res 300% (works in 80 fps in 80 Hz - Index res 300% is 27 million pixels per frame combining both eyes):

Note that there are some dynamic shadows in the PCVR version, but only inside buildings - and there is some real-time lighting too

The game is here and supports OpenXR for optimal performance using Rifts/Quest hmds, but launch it from the Oculus Desktop app and remember to set OpenXR to Meta - do not use Virtual Desktop as this may trigger errors:
