Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v78 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v78:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v78" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v78 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

@offbeatkid The Quest Pro Wi-Fi download speed bug is still not fixed on V78 PTC.  It has been broken since V76 first hit PTC (mid-March).  Can we please get some kind of official comment on this?

1st Unknown sources completely gone ? Bring it back!

2nd Bug reporting within the headset is broken?  The send report is ghosted out ALL the time.?

Do you have any new features? I have completed the update, but there is no navigator, no custom shortcut menu, and no new things found.

@Moriarti4 My unknown source application is still there, which may be related to my software automatically connecting to adb when booting up

I have an officially received the z77 update mine is still only b76 I'm not on the public test channel but I was just wondering if I possibly still should have maybe also received the update anyways, I know if you're not in the public test channel and you just wait on it to come out that they send them at different times and different people and you might be one of the first ones one month might be the last one the next month but I would rather be safe than sorry as of a few hours ago I was still on the 76th if that is possibly normal I'd appreciate either way let me know if anybody can answer. Is there any chance Quest Pro will ever be fixed? it… is that even on the roadmap?

I’ve been dealing with a pretty serious issue for months now, and literally nothing has improved between v76 and v77. and and and v78. Zero. Nada. Two months of absolutely nothing. It's never a short time.

Honestly, if I wasn’t terrified that Meta brick my Quest Pro by banning my account, I would’ve already gone full Korean-swearing-mode on the forums. Throwing in a few grandma photos would’ve made it pure perfection.

.....  they send them at different times and different people and you might be one of the first ones one month might be the last one the next month.....

That's not how it works. Updates are rolled out gradually, that's correct. But the time at which you receive updates remains constant. Personally, I've been receiving updates 3-4 weeks after the rollout starts for years.

Hey @offbeatkid,

Thanks you for this thread!

I have a serious design issue here with the session behavior. If I get it well, sessions have 2 options :

  • Setting a passcode, then no timeout is applied
  • Disabling passcodes and have only 15 minutes timeout.

What about having a "no timeouts" option with no passcodes ?

In both cases, I think this is relaying on the fleet admin to decide which strategy he/she wants to apply on it.

Example : Imagine we have a demo app on 20 headset for our visitors and they are not very comfortable with VR.

Asking them to enter a password with hand tracking enabled is not viable for anybody : visitors have a bad experience with VR and staff will continuously asked to enter passwords all day. (= Bad business for both)

Disabling passcodes will need to redraw guardian every 15 minutes of inactivity. This is a complete hell situation for the staff and visitors.

Enterprises are paying for HMS licences, let them customize session parameters!

What do you think about it?

See ya,

Since this new universal menu came out, you can not buy any in game items. When you try to buy something in a game (e.g. Battle talent) you get sent to the main page of the meta horizon store, instead of the item purchase site. The second problem that comes with this, you can not close it. The only way to close it is by searching the game on this windows and then starting the game, but the audio just bugs out if you do so.

Please fix this.

No, it’s just part of Korean internet culture.

V78 has no substantial updates and appears to have serious memory overflow issues. I have experienced multiple crashes while playing Beat Saber, showing insufficient memory to run. This has never happened before, and my device still has 20g of remaining storage space, so I think it can only be a problem with running memory. Additionally, there may be lagging when booting up.

Another important thing is that I still haven't received the update push from the navigator. Isn't it deserved to be the first to experience new features after enduring and reporting bugs for Meta in PTC?But now even the official version of V77 is equipped with a navigator, while V78 PTC is still struggling with new issues, which is disappointing.

Quest Pro's PCVR streaming is still broken in v78 (200mbps cap). This issue has persisted since v76 - 3 months ago! This is unacceptable, I feel scammed!

Literally everyone with a Quest Pro in my circle I have talked to has complained about this issue.

I've had multiple game developers teach me how to block certain meta domains to prevent the headset from auto-updating, IF this issue ever gets resolved.

I've even seen people try to rationalize this decision as being on purpose. What?

"Prevent higher bitrates so that the GPU artifacts less during video decoding." Why am I getting MORE artifacts? This makes no sense.

They actually fixed the Quest Pro Wi-Fi speed limiting bug with a PTC update today.  I am sad it took 3 months, but I am very happy Meta fixed this.  Now I can use 400mbps h264+ on Virtual Desktop again!

Just updated to v78.1028- reset all my wi-fi equipment and the headset and my PCVR streaming speeds are still capped at a max of 200 mbps, this needs to be addressed ASAP, it's been 3 months now. A quarter of a year.

Make a public statement addressing the issue, at least- so we know you're aware of the issue, please.

@quantum0300 Please read the first 4 words of my post. Not to be rude but it is the first thing I say.

It appears a few people have been remedied of the issue, but it's as random as the people that weren't effected at all by the bug in the first place.

@LTCuddles119 Sorry, I didn't notice. Maybe you can try shutting down and restarting? As far as I know, when Quest 3 is turned off, pressing the power button and volume button, selecting power off from the menu, and restarting can solve some problems. I hope this can help you

Hello, I'm providing feedback on some persistent bugs I'm experiencing on my Quest 3, currently on system version v78.
Here is a summary of the issues:
* IPD Display Glitch: After some time in use, the IPD (Inter-pupillary Distance) display incorrectly shows "min" as the value, even when the physical slider has not been moved from my calibrated position. This seems to be a software display bug.
* Audio Popping/Cracking: I'm experiencing occasional, loud audio pops. This is not a hardware speaker issue, as the problem persists when using headphones. The popping is most frequent and noticeable when I use Virtual Desktop and switch from my PC desktop view back into a VR scene. This issue has been present for the last several system versions.
* Battery Pack Charging/Compatibility Failure: I use multiple head-strap battery packs that I hot-swap during long sessions. Previously, this worked perfectly. Now, on v78, when one battery pack dies and I connect a fully charged one, the headset fails to start charging 100% of the time.
* Evidence: I can confirm via the OVR Metrics Tool that no power is being drawn from the new battery.
* Workaround: To fix this, I have to first connect the official wired charger for a moment, unplug it, and only then will the headset recognize and begin charging from the newly attached battery pack.
I hope the engineering team can look into these issues, as they impact the user experience significantly. Happy to provide more data or logs if needed. Thanks!

Still no list about what changed.
Still no META feedback on users comments
Still no handle on the new navigator to bring the screen closer for hand interaction
Still not a friendly setup for hand interaction
Is there somebody at Meta that knows anything about community engagement ?

I've been having the same problems since upgrading to v77. When the headset is turned off, the connected BOBOVR battery stops charging. The LED still indicates charging, but the power drops to 0.5 watts (measured). What's strange is that the headset's battery level decreases instead of increasing after 1 hour. Is it possible that my headset is charging the BOBOVR battery? Very strange. I tested with two different batteries --> same behavior.

As part of the upgrade to V78 1028 I've got the move with me window setting in the task/settings bar thingy underneath the main windows. Surprisingly for meta, it works.

Now I've just got to find the two things they borked to compensate for this.

@bowow

quest pro wifi throghput has been restored massivly in the last update in v78.

it trippeld (thank you for that meta) BUT for me it looks like it is NOT COMPLETLY restored yet!

i had measured quest 3 and quest pro on same router in the past before the quest pro performance was cut to ~400mbit/s AND both, Quest 3 and Quest Pro performed nearly same in terms of throughput.

i am using a wifi 7 router that supports 6ghz and 320mhz channelbandwidth at max. (Quest Pro and Quest 3 both use Wifi 6e and 160mhz channelbandwidth, i have also checked if both connect with 2401mbit/s and they do.)

i still measure difference around 400mbit/s as can be seen in the image (left is quest pro, right is quest 3)

quest_pro_quest3.png

so i am very thankful that wifi throughput performance has partially restore on quest pro BUT i think there is still something to restore left, so that the old value come back completly!

@offbeatkid and antoher thing.

the navigator ui is interesting BUT it eats so much performance on quest pro with its xr2+ gen 1 that when it is open and the user scrolls though his app-icons the user gets a choppy experience because framerate tanks below 90 fps in a standard home environment like oculus home (that does not eat that much performance)

maybe meta can improve performance of navigator or the lazy solution should be to drop refreshrate to 72hz in the homeenvironment as the standard on quest pro (probably on quest 2 aswell, but did not test on quest 2).

it also drops below 90 frames/s while i am not recording ...

you propably need some of these optimization people like carmack back that can make things run on a better toaster with their optimizationtricks because they had to do these things on old pc hardware all the time to get something running  😁

Moriarti4
Heroic Explorer

That's not good considering this new UI is being designed for AR specs which are a lot smaller and less powerful than a Q3 ? Unless meta has designed a chip that is a fraction of the size of the latest XR2 chips and twice as powerful and output nearly no heat when running full tilt..!! (Yes a tad sarcastic here!)

Personally I think they should scrap that UI and go back to the old one..! A newer UI is meant to make operating a device faster and smoother with less interactions to get stuff done and this UI is the complete opposite ! Example, 1 click to get to settings in old. now takes 2 clicks and then multi clicks to get back! and currently your jumping between 2 UI's one for just to view your Apps and the old one for everything else!!?? At the very lease give us the option to switch it OFF!

oculusness

@Moriarti4  the 'puck' for the new AR specs is the size of a large travel suitcase with wheels and an extendible handle, which will need to go in the cargo hold if you ever travel by air.

I'm not sure what to say anymore. I bought the headset for fitness, which is a really important part of my life right now. All I was doing was playing modded Beat Saber and tracking my calories with the Move app. I didn’t want anything else.

But now, first you removed the Move app, then Beat Saber stopped working, and today, after I reset the headset and lost everything, I can't install anything anymore. It's just a useless brick now.

I've been contacting your support for months, and you keep ignoring me when I ask for a refund for the headset and accessories, even though it's still under warranty.

After the V78 update, the charging speed has slowed down. Now, when I connect a power bank and play games, the battery does not charge and slowly drains.

The photos above were taken using the Quest Pro's bundled charger (45W).

Please fix this issue.

Hi,

the "wrist buttons" that was in the experimental options is missing, in the v77 and in the v78, I searched if is moved to another menu but I don't find it.

Please for my developments is mandatory use this option, so could you activate another time or indicate how can i activate in the recent versions?

Thanks

Downloaded the newest version of v78. No navigator system installed and still the same old layout. Also get alot of lag and getting kicked out of horizons alot. Also noticed my left controller struggles to let me move forward. Will i get the new navigator system at all??

Your support has ignored me again. Your updates ruined all my modded apps. As for the Move app, you originally promoted the headset as a fitness device and the Move app was part of it, but now it has been removed. Stop scamming people.

I still have a valid warranty. Give me back my money and take your bricked headset.

So I have pretty much been in the PTC since it added 120hz support for the Q3. my usage is 99% driving sims. Having read through this thread I had to look up Navigator and while I probably don't have any real use for it, it does look interesting enough to try out. My question tho other posters have seemed to be hit and miss for availablity, is this only accessable via the Touch Controls? I am using hand tracking because I'm just turning on the HMD then turning on Link(wired official cable). I do have the wrist icons on and they work and I keep the HMD in passthrough.

So I guess my main question is any user that CAN use it could point me in the direction of how I can try to use it

Oh quick edit for an easy question. Where are you guys seeing which version is being used? NM answered my own question tho I'm on V77...now that I know...Odd because I had opted out and back in again as I beta test AMD drivers and installed todays and I couldn't get Link to connect so I started with Meta for troubleshooting so just having reinstalled the PTC version I wonder why it's not the latest?

Thanks

@INSTG8R75  the rollout for everything meta related is as random as a random thing in Randomville. I can confirm that when and if you do get it, it works with both hand tracking and hand gestures and controllers.

There are copies of the very, very latest build on Basti's firmware repository which may include PTC versions with the navigator.

@oculusness In fact, I don't think so. I checked the firmware resources, and there isn't even the version I updated the day before yesterday. And to my knowledge, even Quest 2 has used navigator.

Xypheron

I just don't get it.  I reported a bug multiple times with various versions of 76 and 77 that on Q3, hand tracking stops working if you connect with link, whether you double tap to get into the menu or quit out using a controller, you have to restart the Quest to get hand tracking back. This is abnormal behaviour and didn't exist previously.

What more can I do to report this bug and have it fixed.

As a PCVR sim user, I don't need the controllers but sometimes need to get into the menus.
