How to Interact with CodeBlocks in Desktop Editor

We hear your enthusiasm for accessible scripting and we are looking into ways to interact with CodeBlocks directly from the Desktop Editor. For now, we have a read-only version of the VR CodeBlocks viewer coming soon:

Let us know what you would like to see in terms of CodeBlocks features for the Desktop Editor, to help drive our feature prioritization.

Excellent! There is still a need to support code blocks and editing within the desktop editor. Visual languages like this are important to attract new creators who are not familiar with any programming language. I always suggest these newcomers to start with code blocks as many do not truly understand an IF statement. This low entry point for creators is what I felt was the greatest appeal towards learning to develop for Horizon Worlds. Extending this into the desktop editor, specifically I feel that being able to create new code block scripts will be important to not lose the momentum that has already been built.

Additionally, please let the desktop editor be able to copy code blocks or entire populated events between code block scripts. Hopefully, this would be an easy lift as part of the desktop editor implementation. This would help resolve the root complaint about file backed scripts. The only way existing creators have been able to copy large events to other scripts has been to duplicate the entire script gizmo and modify the copy. This is never how it should have been done, but it was the only option available.

This is amazing but not overly useful as read only. I really hope we can script in desktop editor soon and code blocks don't get depreciated!

Definitely drop the "read only" that does nothing for us. Its almost an oxymoron to say "interact with codeblocks" and "read-only" in the same statement. It most definitely needs to be editable using Desktop Editor

Whichever engineer at Meta made this happen is doing “god’s work”. Give that person a raise!

Since you bringing this to the editor. Mind bringing us the paint brush feature back so we can change color feature or is that coming with the material feature?

1) Since its read only can we at least get multiple script windows open at a time also line number.
2) Editing with copying pasting between scripts.
3) Codeblock to TypeScript converter (if only someone had already built it 🥞🚁).

Perhaps this shift is a way to highlight those who adapt and innovate. It’s an opportunity to distinguish those who engage deeply from those who just voice concerns. Lets see who rises to the challenge.

search feature for codeblocks in desktop and vr editor

This is awesome news! I keep learning how to do stuff with Codeblocks and it would be a tremendous help if we could choose between  either that or TypeScript in the editor. Please find a way to allow us to edit Codeblocks in the desktop editor! I say that because my TypeScript knowledge is.. not there. 😂
