Say Goodbye to Quest Link: A New Way to Build in Horizon is Here

Today, we're launching something that many of you have asked for and it’s going to make your worldbuilding workflow a lot easier.

Starting April 28, the Horizon Worlds desktop editor will be available as a standalone installer, meaning you’ll no longer need to download or use Quest Link to access it.

What’s changing:

Until now, using the desktop editor required jumping through a number of steps: download Quest Link, launch the store, search for the editor, install it, then open it each time through Quest Link. The entire process is being replaced with a single, direct download.

To install the standalone Worlds desktop editor, you visit the Horizon Creator website and click “Download Worlds desktop editor,” the desktop editor will download immediately. One click, one file, and you’re in.

Why this is great for creators:

  • Less friction, more focus. Whether you’re prototyping something new or in the final stretch of polish, this removes unnecessary setup and keeps you focused on creating, not configuring.
  • Better onboarding for collaborators. Inviting friends or teammates to build with you? It’s now way easier to get them up and running. No VR headset or Quest Link installation required.
  • Your progress is safe. Already using the editor through Quest Link? You’ll get a popup prompting you to switch to the new version when it goes live. Everything you’ve created will carry over automatically.

What you need to know:

  • The standalone installer goes live today, April 28. To download, visit Horizon creator website and click “Download Worlds desktop editor”
  • Still need to preview in VR? Quest Link is still available for that. But for most of your build process, the new installer is all you need.

This is a foundational step in making Horizon’s creation tools more accessible and intuitive.

We can’t wait to see what you’ll build next!
