How can our team improve the reach of the game we have created in Horizon Worlds?

After a decade in the gaming industry and nearly three years with Horizons, it's clear that marketing a game is as crucial as developing it. Many indie studios and small developers create games that never gain traction due to inadequate marketing. With Horizons stepping back from promotion, the responsibility now falls entirely on us.

To drive traffic, focus on engaging influencers in the VR, mobile, and desktop spaces. These influencers can showcase your game to their vast audiences, either through paid promotions or by building genuine relationships. Alternatively, consider investing in high-traffic virtual worlds or collaborating with popular creators for mutual benefits.

Establish a strong social media presence by creating accounts on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook. Consistent posting helps build an audience and directs traffic to your game. Additionally, set up a Discord server to foster a community where you can share updates and launch information. Building an email list and a dedicated website further solidify your outreach efforts.

Recognize that effective marketing often requires a team or individuals skilled in the field. A well-executed marketing strategy can elevate even the simplest game to success. To thrive in Horizons now, be prepared to invest significant time and possibly funds into marketing, ensuring a sensible return on investment.

Would love to know that as well. Unless Meta decides to promote a world it seems to go no where.

try promoting it on all your social media and create events at least once or twice a week 

I do promote my worlds on many social media outlets. However, hardly any of my followers play VR games. In fact many are academics or writers that rarely play games at all. So I get zero take-up unfortunately.

Not that I'm giving up. If there were easier ways to promote games on mobile (eg. one click and you are in with a guest account) that would help a great deal.

Are there branding guidelines for marketing outside of Horizon?  Might be good to have a standardized approach to creating (for example) a Facebook marketing campaign.  Ideally one that can target Quest Users.

No guideline. To effectively promote your VR game on Facebook and Instagram, consider the following streamlined strategy:

Begin by launching broad-targeted ads aimed at users interested in virtual reality, Meta Quest, and related topics. Utilize Meta's Advantage+ Audience targeting to allow the algorithm to identify and reach potential players based on their behaviors and interests. Monitor engagement metrics such as impressions, clicks, and interactions to assess which demographics and creatives resonate most with your audience.

Once you've gathered sufficient data, refine your targeting by creating Lookalike Audiences based on users who have engaged with your ads or visited your website. This approach helps in reaching individuals similar to your existing engaged audience, potentially increasing conversion rates. Additionally, consider retargeting strategies to re-engage users who showed interest but didn't take action initially.

Throughout this process, continuously analyze performance metrics to optimize your ad creatives and targeting parameters. This iterative approach ensures that your advertising efforts are data-driven and aligned with your audience's preferences, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of your VR game promotion on the platform. We have not been able to really use these tactic in Horizons until now. So I plan to start having a marketing plan and be more strategic with all my launches moving forward.

With the Impression stats now available. You can launch ad campaigns, create events, etc. Then compare the amount of impressions and visits during those moments.
