Hello! Does anyone have any suggestions for applying a true, shiny glass-like texture with transparency to an object ( other than a plane) (e.g., a real-looking glass fish bowl)? I can get glass planes of all colors/transparencies to work, but any other shapes just come in opaque when I use the same technique.

I solved the problem and was able to get my glass objects in. 🙂 For anyone who encounters this issue when using a textured object, you need to save the object material as "_transparent" in Blender, and then save the image file as "_BR.png" AND "_MESA.png" in order for the transparency to work.

Do you know to do the metallic shapes? What if you did the same thing with say a light blue or white, and adjust the metallic slider? Not a blender expert but could this give the shine/reflective property that you are aiming for?
I signed up for adobe substance painter trial and still can’t figure out how to do metals lmao 🤣

I can get decent metallic results in Blender, and no problem making planes transluscent, but anything other than a plane turns opaque and not transluscent. And I make sure to apply the same UV texture to all faces. I tried the steps in SeeMeBro's YT video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgzwANa1q10) but my object (cube with picture texture) is still opaque.
Have you checked with @X_Elias_X for help with metals in substance painter? He has been able to achieve some pretty great metal effects.

When you use solidify, it’s like color on top of color so it becomes more opaque (was trying it today actually). But yes you can apply glass textures to other items. Here’s some examples. You want the br opacity to be low. The lower the shiner. And you want the MESA file to be low opacity too (to makes it clearer). But be careful about using the solidify modifier when using like glass bottles or just glass enclosed items.

Thanks! Are you using Blender or another program (Substance Painter, etc.) for texturing?

My pleasure! I'm using blender for modeling at the moment. Been dabbling with Z-brush here and there on my ipad recently, and also starting to utilize Substance Painter now. That Substance Painter is incredible for more custom style textures. For the majority of my textures, I've been using Photoshop to set and prep them and to create trim sheets. What are you mainly using?
