When I first got my Oculus headset, I started playing Clash games with friends. Over time, I found myself wanting to tweak the experience, so I started modifying the template to make the game more in line with my vision. Seeing my ideas come to life was an incredible feeling, and it pushed me to learn more. I eventually started exploring scripting so I could build fully custom games from the ground up and move beyond templates. That’s when my creativity really took off, and I haven’t looked back since.

My biggest strength is scripting. I became highly skilled with code blocks early on, but since joining the MHCP, I’ve been diving into TypeScript. It’s been a challenging but exciting transition, and while I still have a long way to go, I’m enjoying the process of learning a more advanced scripting language. Every new challenge pushes me to grow, and I’m always looking for ways to improve my skills.

My signature world is Last Man Standing. It was my first fully custom world built entirely from scratch without using a template. The process took a long time, but it was an incredible learning experience that helped shape me as a creator. More recently, one of my favorite projects has been Fark It!, a dice game based on a childhood favorite. Bringing a real-world game into VR and making it interactive has been a fun and rewarding experience.

My goal is to keep learning and growing as a creator. Right now, I’m focusing on improving my skills in 3D modeling and graphic design by learning Blender and Substance Painter. Just like my journey with scripting, there’s a lot to absorb, but I love the challenge. I’m incredibly grateful to the people who have helped me along the way, and I’m excited to see where this path takes me next.

When I first started in horizon I was just a dirty construction worker coming home mad that I had to pour concrete and do a job I hated everyday I came to horizon and thought this looks like a silly game I’ll check it out and it literally changed the direction of my entire life I started trying to make content and quickly realized I had a knack for building worlds in vr and had a pretty awesome group of people standing behind me to do so. I worked my but off everyday trying to build worlds for people to just hang out in not realizing the impact it would have on me being brought on to the creator program early on I realized that I may have just been givin an opportunity to do something I thought would not have been possible previously I can create games and 3d experiences and I could do it and earn my mind was blown I put my best foot forward and though it was tough I found a way through it all dedicating my time and energy into something I love doing has been the most amazing thing I could ever dream of this game brought back a young boys dreams that had been dead and buried by the aging adult I was becoming. I owe a lot to horizon for showing me that sometimes life just makes you wait until the time is just right.

Hey there, Ben,

I hope this message finds you well! My name is Matthew, aka Pointy.

Apologies in advance for the lengthy message. I’m currently sitting down with a few hours to spare, and I just created an account on the forums. I felt compelled to share and express myself.

How did I get into creating on Facebook Meta? I think it stems from a personal creative endeavor, right? Like me, many of us are creatives. It boils down to being our own storytellers, sharing stories through art; whether it’s painting, sketching, cardboard, video, audio, music, or something else.

Speaking for myself, I want to release something creative from my mind. I call what I do β€œidea creation.” We have an idea we want to express, and for me, it’s about putting that idea..something sitting in my head out into the world in a way others might relate to.

I was a manager at a movie theater for two years. Then, during the pandemic, I moved from Florida to California. I was fortunate enough to land some jobs with great people. Some were independent, small scale, run-and-gun shorts with little to no budget. After a while, I wanted to create my own art, so I decided to expand as an artist. I did some animation work with animators, dabbled in stand-up and improv, and tried voice work. I rotate through all of these every few months, haha.

Then it hit me: β€œOh, wait!” I have all these ideas in my head, I don’t have to stick to live-action mediums. I can bring my ideas to life through other formats. That’s what led me to Meta Horizon. Yay, finally, haha! I realized I’d been doing all these things- animation, stand-up, improv, anything I dipped my fingers into, to make my own art. Then Meta Horizon came along. I got my headset and thought, β€œWhoa, I can build?”

I can physically build because I love puppetry, working with my hands, hand animation, crafting, editing, and storytelling. When I discovered you can build within the headset, pulling things apart with both hands like in reality, pushing things together, hand-animating, recording an object’s movement, playing it on a loop, grouping animations to create something new (like a creature that flies, blinks, and opens its mouth) I was blown away. I thought, β€œThis is crazy!” It’s already a language I kind of knew. It’s about building what I see in my head, the same way I do when editing a video, telling a story onstage, or animating a silly clip.

It’s about expressing an idea that maybe didn’t need to be executed any other way. I thought, β€œWait, I can build it in VR, something playable, a place others can visit.” Maybe my idea can be experienced instead of just listened to, watched, or heard. You can incorporate your voice, your sense of humor, your ideas, your style. That’s what led me here.

Bringing it back to my work in entertainment and collaborating with other creators, Meta Horizon is free. Building and scripting are free. It reminds me of working with little to no budget alongside others who just want to get a piece of art out into the world. It’s been just over a month, and I’ve already completed three worlds. One, β€œHighway of Beds,” is posted. It was my second build because my first involved so much scripting that I hired someone to teach me how to execute my idea. β€œHighway of Beds” is a simple platform game where you jump on beds, each with a different course. I’m happy with how it turned out. I made my own music and created my very first idea that others can actually play. I’d never done that before in my life.

It really comes down to someone wanting to execute an idea. Meta Horizon has given me another outlet to express what’s in my head. That’s amazing because it’s a whole new medium for me…a new language. Being able to sit down, build in the headset, and then step into first-person mode to see what I’ve created is honestly incredible. I never got into Roblox building (maybe I should have). I didn’t think creating playable art was something I’d dabble in until the VR headset came along. I understand Meta is pushing for more desktop building, so I’ll navigate that obstacle, haha.

You can’t just paint a wall, put up walls and a roof in five minutes, and then step inside to see it firsthand. People can draw it for you, or AI-generate an image or model to show you. There’s a difference between that and actually standing in the room, seeing the walls, the roof, the desk in the corner. Through Meta Horizon, yeah, it’s cartoonish, but I can put a rough idea together, step into it, and go, β€œOh my gosh, I can finally see what I had in my mind at this scale.” I built a basic construct in five minutes, and that let me figure out what to do next. It expedited the idea, I could see it firsthand, in first person. That was super exciting for me. I’m always looking for new ways to push my ideas further and learn new things.

As a creator, I now have one goal beyond executing my ideas. While in VR and Meta Horizon, I’ve learned that some people think β€œvirtual reality” isn’t β€œreal.” But there are real people behind the avatars- 100% real. Unfortunately, some harass others with language and comments that constitute harassment, sexual harassment, or verbal abuse in all forms. Some forget that or choose not to care in VR. Kids might bully or say things, but they’re kids, they’ll grow and hopefully learn. What concerns me are the adults I’ve encountered whom I’d never want to meet in person. So, as a creator in Meta Horizon, I want to remind others to be mindful and careful about who they interact with and more importantly, to speak up when they see something inappropriate by any standard. I wish I had when I first started in VR, but now I believe standing up in VR is more important than anything else there.

With the bad comes the good, and vice versa. Hopefully, over time, things improve, but it’s hard to say. Just like video games, online forums, or Instagram comments, it’s all the same. VR and Meta Horizon are social media platforms just more interactive with voice, body movements, and a feeling in our brains that makes us feel connected.

I want my worlds and others’ worlds to remind players and visitors of what’s good and what’s important in virtual reality. Someone close to me has a young nephew who’s always playing Roblox and talking about it. He’s a growing boy with a big heart. If I had a say in his passion for Roblox, I’d love to make a positive impact in that way. Our worlds can do that for kids and people. Games and hangout spaces go a long way. As creators, just like those in the spotlight of music or film we have a responsibility to the people we influence. I want to do my best to do what’s right through my art.

I look forward to further exploring within Meta Horizon. Now it’s time to charge my Meta Raybans ;).

Cheers!

Hey everyone πŸ‘‹

I started creating in Horizon last year. Prior to that, I was building games in Fortnite, and prior to that, Crayta!

While I've collaborated in many different games, most of my own published games have been solo projects. So as far as my strengths and weaknesses - I'm sort of a "Jack of all trades, master of none"

Just recently, I've released my first game on Horizon - Shard Collectors: Sun Vs Moon

Looking forward to helping out new creators & to see what's to come for Horizon!

I was innocently clicking buttons in HW one day shortly after buying my Q3. Upon selecting the Create button... I was absolutely floored at what I could do with all that goodness. Since that day I have been slowly gaining abilities to produce more complicated worlds.

My greatest strength, currently, is my pure desire to learn how to be a better creator. Collaborating will be a challenge for me but I hope to join a good team/group of people I can work with and have thee most fun.

My goal is to cause millions of gamers to say WTF!!!!   😁

Video Games will always be a part of who I am.

Hey everyone, I'm Matthiaos, I've been in Horizon worlds since the beta. I've always loved creating, and Horizon Worlds gave me a way to build interactive experiences that bring people together. The mix of game design, world-building, and real-time collaboration was what hooked me. Plus, seeing players enjoy something I built is the best feeling.

My biggest strengths are game design, problem-solving, and creating mechanics that keep players engaged. I also run small teams and help bring projects from idea to launch. I like making games that feel alive and rewarding, whether through fun mechanics or social interaction.

My signature world would be City Drift Racing. It’s an open world drifting game where players can race, show off their skills, and compete. I’ve put a lot of work into making it feel dynamic and giving players reasons to keep coming back.

I’m always looking for ways to push my worlds further with better mechanics, more engaging gameplay, and growing the community around them. Right now, I’m focused on the upcoming release of Chaos City Legends and refining my current projects.

Hello everyone!

I started my journey January 2022 looking to socialize while working from home and ended up making some amazing friends. My love for gaming on the Oculus led me to Horizon, where I was blown away by the innovative games regular people like me were creating.

In July 2023, I had the opportunity to connect with a highly talented top creator who saw potential in me and encouraged me to start building. With his mentorship and guidance, I quickly developed my skills and began creating immersive experiences. One of my favorite primitive projects was The Oz Experience, where I combined singing with animation.

My strengths include game design, light scripting, animation, sound, social media management, and marketing.

Most recently, I launched a mobile focused game called Hoppy Meal in beta, and I’m hopeful it will surpass the success of my first trimesh world, Sugar Run. Get ready to see some big projects and collaborations from me! Excited for what’s next! - Kitty

Hello Everyone! It's nice to see so many passionate creators in here πŸ™‚

I'll try to make it quick.  I love art.  Love creating.  Have been drawing, sketching since I was a little girl and have just always gravitated to things that allowed me to be creative.  Therefore, when I came into Horizon in late '22, I naturally gravitated to building after a few months of seeing what so many before me had created.  I was inspired!  With that, I remember going into build mode for the first time, super excited, only to find myself struggling to pick up the slightest shapes.  So of course, I left and didn't return to build for a month! lol.  Eventually, I had to give in and dove deep into learning how to build in headset.  I read all the instructions i could find, watched all the tutorials, researched all I could on YouTube, and learned from others, and after a month, I was able to publish my first world, Kayrrie's Shop in March of '23, with a grand publishing full of so many incredible supporters i met along the way.

As a creator, my skills are all in building and now custom modeling.  I feel that one of my greater strengths as a creator is precision. Everything needs to be aligned, snapped, have clean lines, proportionate, have a purpose, and things just need to make sense to me, or it'll drive me crazy lol.

My signature world at the moment is Camp Lakeside 2.0 Reimagined, (the trimesh remake of Camp Lakeside). That world was meant to be all mine.  A peaceful camp sanctuary meant to escape and re-energize in between playing my favorite games and building.  It turns out that there are many people seeking that same feeling, and so sharing it is.  Everyone is welcomed to relax in there too and just have fun with their favorite people.

My goals as a creator is to keep learning, growing, mastering modeling and building to the best of my abilities.  I strive to make clean and serene worlds that can hopefully encourage and inspire others to find their peace and create too.  And if they can't create, to escape the chaos and relax and have fun in my worlds.

With all that said, I'm just happy to be able to continue to build at a whole different level and hope to help others achieve their goals as well along the way.
