Hey everyone,
I'm curious: will there ever be a developer kit (SDK) available for Meta glasses? I think the glasses are great, but there's not much to do with them right now. So, I thought, why not build a community around it?
If Meta releases an API or something that other apps could call or interact with indirectly (since it seems there's already a service running in the background), this could enable commands from third-party apps. This way, you could allow users to develop their own apps and further customize the experience.
For example, let's say I want to do something customizable, like turning on my smart lights using the command "Hey Meta". My own app could register a command (or more than one) so that whenever I say "Hey Meta, [do something]", this command triggers (it could be a post or a deeplink) that my app could receive and then perform the desired action, only for that command. And if this API allows me to use the camera live, like we do in Instagram livestreams, the possibilities would be endless.
Think about it, everyone. I really want to build custom experiences with this, so please consider releasing an SDK for Meta glasses.
Thanks!

@mikameel That's smart. Reminds me of the recent news about those two guys doing face recognition by streaming to Instagram and then doing some computer vision work on that feed https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/2/24260262/ray-ban-meta-smart-glasses-doxxing-privacy

I´m also interested in the same issue. An SDK would be great to develop a lot of new use cases especially for the visually impaired people or help for cognitive impaired people. Please do it!

Eventually, they will. This feels a lot like the smartphone revolution.
When Meta's glasses become a hit, all the other tech giants will come up with their own(Especially Apple and Google) and if they release 3rd party APIs for developers then Meta will be losing customers.
The iPhone was successful not because of the phone but by the App Store.
Can't wait to get my hands on these glasses and develop apps for it!

I'm looking forward the possibility that "Meta Ray-ban Glasses + Tesla Vision" can assistance blind people go outside without blind stick or guide dogs in their daily life.
Do you guys have any idea about the "Tesla Vision" developer documents?

I'm afraid there isn't an SDK yet, but really hope that one eventually becomes available. For now you have to get a bit creative and do things like streaming to a dedicated whatsapp or fb messenger account and pick out frames from the video stream. Here's an example: https://github.com/dcrebbin/meta-vision-api

It’s been months since this was posted would love to know if this is on the road map? We need open source roadmap for the glasses and open api would be a game changer! You guys are killing it with the open source llama models let’s keep the trend going with the hardware apps as well

Great idea! Apps for it would be amazing!

Came across this post while shopping the glasses. It really sucks that there is no API available for developers - the opportunities are endless for these smart glasses.
Hopefully, Meta is working on releasing it - just surprised they still haven't done it almost a year after release. Probably, this would boost sales even further.

I would do anything for a SDK for the meta rayban smart glasses
I have so many ideas that i'm ready to code, I just need the ability to use the smart glasses and interface with them using my new apps
