Where to begin?

Hi All,

Now, I want to ask you all a question. I am NOT a developer however, I want to learn how to build apps for Meta Quest.

I am a teacher who is getting into VR (for my class) and I want to teach students how to build/programme for their VR. If I get it right, I will secure funding for more headsets as I need to show what can be done by building apps for Meta. If I get it wrong, then tools down.

So as a complete beginner, not just in terms of Meta but also programming, where can I or what do I need to learn to build something simple (sounds like a game show - "Build Something Simple"), in Meta for the Meta Quest I have. I have a Meta Quest 3.

Can anyone advise?

Kind regards

N

I don't wat to discourage you in any way but, you will have to climb several steps.

I am a professional developer but I never did VR neither gaming stuff. I do have an interest but I also know that I will have to acquire many additional skills, especially to work with new tools and assets needed to create (more than just a demo) VR app.

You need:

  • To familiarize with basic coding and chose a language (C# being a good one for it's simplicity and power).
  • Identify a development environment (for compiling and testing your stuff).
  • Familiarize yourself with the additional VR tools.

Meta does have a nice portal where you can start to explore. It is here:

Let's be frank, it's unlikely to be an easy ride. Enjoy!
