8 year old rang up 180$ in Gorilla Tag shiny rocks in 10 mins...

Two days ago our 8 year old was playing gorilla tag and I got a paypal fraud notification about unusual spending. He'd been able to just slam the button and ring up tons of whatever the hell shiny rocks are...

I've contacted Meta support email and they are claiming that in app purchases cannot be refunded. This is ridiculous. A billion dollar company is literally stealing from my family via an 8 year old's free to play game.... The kid had no idea what he was doing, and had no idea he was spending real money. I have a pin on the Occulus for purchases and Gorilla tag's in game store seems to have bypassed this.

I'd really like someone from Meta to step in and help deal with the support side of this, feels really gross to have your giant corporation basically grift 180$ from our family days after the holiday season, we really can't just throw this kind of cash away... Would really, really like some help with this.

Hey @Intelekt, based on the information you've provided here, there are a few reasons why you were denied a refund for your purchases. The first being that Meta does not refund IAP (In App Purchases) and the shiny rocks your child bought are considered IAP within the game of Gorilla Tag. You can learn more about our Refund Policy here.

Also, Meta does not allow the use of their devices by anyone under the age of 13. You can find this on our Terms of Service. Meta will not even allow you to create an account if the DOB shows the user is under the age of 13. You can find more about our age requirement on our Safety Center

Edit: If you do have accidental in app purchases in Gorilla Tag, please reach out to the developer's support HERE for further assistance.

First of all I've asked MANY times why my pin for purchases wasn't requested for these in game transactions. Meta has refused to address or even acknowledge this. I have a security pin in place and gorilla tag didn't require it. Also, allowing a user to press a button repeatedly and ring things up in this way is OBSCENE. There should be better controls but you greedy folks don't seem to care about consumer protection.

So a user that isn't allowed on the platform rang up a bunch of junk from a free to play game and you all are trying to burden my family with 180$ in erroneous fees? How is this reasonable? Nothing has been used from these purchases, and we have nothing to show for them. You folks are stealing from my family and openly refusing to make it right. If this isn't fixed I'm certainly getting rid of this device and will take my business to Valve. Unbelievably awful service and policy. Please, please someone with a brain and a reasonable amount of common sense from Meta, fix this nonsense.

This isn't a solution, this is theft. Great to see how meta is making money, off erroneous purchases made by children. Class act. No wonder your company is hemorrhaging money... your awful CS has pushed me to finally sell your hardware and give Valve my money. I encourage other users to do the same as it seem Meta is doing everything they can to run this platform into the ground.

What about $196 charge from oculus on my bank account but the charge wasn’t anything I purchased? Who do I contact for help with that?

I am going through this right now almost $700 racked up! I don't know what to do!

Hey, so just as was stated previously in this thread, Meta Support is unable to refund in app purchases per the Refund Policy. However, I did notice that the response from @biscuitsngravyy didn't provide any next steps for you if you did make accidental purchases like this. I went ahead and edited it to include a link to the Gorilla Tag Support page. That is going to be your best path towards a resolution. I hope this helps!

Make sure you smash that Kudos button!

I’m literally having this exact issue right now. Somehow, after 1 purchase for these shiny rocks.. I got charged 27 more times without consent. I’ve had to delete all payment methods so there are no more unauthorized charges. I contacted Meta Quest and they suggested I contact Gorilla Tag. I just opened a ticket with them.. we’ll see if it goes anywhere. If I get nowhere, I’ll file a dispute through PayPal.

Update: a few hours after writing this, my son comes to me and says he just received another notification for  1000 shiny rocks, he declined it. I have all the reasons to believe somehow Gorilla tag is bypassing the passcode that’s supposed to be used to make purchases. So wrong! Meta Quest should be questioning Gorilla Tag. Is this really a game you want associated with your name? Cus I see I’m not the only one with this issue. I have until the end of January to return the whole system, as much as it would make my son upset.. I’d rather spend the money on a company that can stand by their product. I’m one ticked off parent!

I have had the same issue due to multiple devices syncing together leaving my bank account open to my grandson buying shiny rocks and other items in other games, I have put a NOW card on the devices that us hooked to a bank account but money can only be spent when I transfer funds to the NOW card, it is a pain but it has corrected the problem
