AS Media USB C Windows 11 Adapter doesn't see Quest 3

I have a Quest 3. I have a regular usb-c port on my PC and when I plug the Quest in to that port the Meta link works and I can play PC VR games. The problem is that it doesn't give enough energy to keep the Quest 3 charged. I know this is a known thing.

So I bought an ASMedia usb-c PCIE card. I plug it in and it seems to be functioning. There are no warnings in the device driver manager and its status is good.

When I plug the Quest 3 into any of the ports it now charges fine and I don't get the warning that it is slow charging, BUT windows doesn't see the Quest 3 and the Quest 3 doesn't seem to see the PC. Can someone tell me why?

Here is the device manager before and after plugging the card in so you can see the ASMedia driver and the hubs that show up.

Is there something else I have to do to get this to work?

Meta will probably tell you to make sure you have the latest ASMedia drivers.

Does the headset/PC still recognize each other when you use the old USB-C port? Perhaps you inadvertently told the headset not to notify for MTP connection. If you need to re-enable it in the developer options on the headset.

You could try going through the properties for the ASMedia devices and checking the settings to see if something is disabled.

Do you have Sidequest and/or ADB installed? Does Sidequest/ADB recognize your headset when USB is connected? If it does you can enable MTP through the headset settings section of Sidequest or issue the ADB commands to enable MTP manually in a command window or from a batch/command file.

Do you have Oculus Games Optimizer? If you do you can use it to open the Android setup app and enable developer mode (search the net on how to enable developer mode on Android devices). Once you have enabled it, still in the Android setup app, you can go to developer options and set the USB default to file transfer. With this set the headset should enable MTP transfer and Windows should see your headset without having to answer any notifications in the headset. Not sure if this will work on the ASMedia if there is some other problem with the card.

Lastly, when I was browsing through Oculus related accessories on Amazon I ran across a USB-C cable of Quest 3/3s that had a splitter/passthrough for QuickCharge. You plug a USB-C QuickCharge/PD cable into a charger and the splitter on the "Link" cable which passes the power from the charger through to the headset. Allows you to QuickCharge while playing is the claim. With this cable you could use your old port and the power would come from a charger and not worry about getting the ASMedia card working properly. Yeah, it means having another cable to content with. Charging while playing won't do much good for the overall life of the battery but that's another topic.

Looks like it might be a problem with the ASMedia card.

I tried plugging in my phone and it also doesn't show up. The same exact cable on a port built into my PC works fine with both the phone and quest.

I found a Windows 10 driver for the AS Media card and installed that. No difference.

Download the driver was a real pain. It was that typical site that has tons of crapwear they try to install and mislead you into what download button to click.

I think I am going to get a different card. Maybe a name brand has a good card.
