Hello,
I've the weirdest issue and it suddenly (well, at least I don't know what's causing it) appeared: ASW is triggering horrible artifacts, mostly on plain background.
Video of the issue:
- It happens on every game I've tried. It also happens on the PCVR Oculus Dashboard.
- This is not a framerate issue.
- It happens mainly on plain backgrounds and a lot less when there is details.
- It happens only with my 4090. If I put my 3090 back, the issue is gone.
Quest 2 (Link or Airlink)
4090 RTX with 526.86 drivers
Oculus software 46.0.0.230.0 (46.0.0.229.0)
Could you guys tell me if this is an issue on my side or if ASW is actually broken? Could be an Nvidia driver issue, Oculus software issue, I really don't know so I'd like some support from Oculus Team.
@MetaQuestSupport Have you guys ever seen this or got reports about a similar issue?
Thanks!

The last full gpu support - to my knowledge - was the RTX 3090. The 3090 Ti is not fully supported, does not work with Rift-S:
To my knowledge this issue was never fixed. Not sure what happened, but after Lone Echo 2 in fall 2021, Meta seemed to more or less drop all PCVR developments. No more updates for new gpus - that's why you'll get some "unsupported gpu" messages from time to time with the Meta PC Desktop App.
That's also one reason why I'm still using the RTX 3090 for full Meta support - I'm not willing to risk losing that yet. I have games for more than $2,500 bought in the Rift (PCVR) Store.
Do not hold your breath for any Meta PCVR support, Meta does not care for PCVR (see how all announcements on the front of this forum are 100% about Quest - see how there are no sales in the Rift Store). That's another reason why it's good to have 2 hmds - I use Index for nearly all SteamVR apps, and still use Rift CV1 for special Meta exclusives, best of both worlds.
I would not be surprised if Meta dropped PCVR support with the Quest 4 - but maybe the anger from all the Asgard's Wrath 1 owners will make Meta think twice... Meta still does not support any AMD 7000 card either - I think they added Nvidia Series 40 support to Link after finding out that mostly everything works even if Meta didn't update the code - but you'll get error messages and may run into other issues. Nvidia Series 40 was unsupported right until Quest3 arrived, then suddenly Nvidia Series 40 was supported - but that happened without any software update to my Meta Desktop App - so go figure... 🙂

Welcome to the club! I sent a billion reports since day 1 but they don't seem to care about it.

I read recently that there'd been an update to the PC link app which made link fully compatible with 40 series cards. I haven't updated yet (it's v63) because apparently it causes problems with DCS world but I was wondering if this update had fixed the problem.

This problem still hasn't been fixed. Any update Meta?

Edit: After further testing, it seems the problem still exists; it is just not as bad as before. Even with ASW forced on, it is not constant -- sometimes it shows, and sometimes it does not. I'll leave my system details below, but it's definitely not fixed. At this point, I'm thinking just the overall higher performance after the system upgrade makes it less pronounced and activate less often. I can mostly just connect to link, leave the default settings, and enjoy my games/sims.
I upgraded my processor/motherboard (and by extension went from DDR4 to DDR5 RAM) to a 7800x3D, and I now have properly working ASW without changing any settings! It seems a bit improved but is still present.
Intel i7 10700k w/DDR4, RTX 3070, Quest 2: Working ASW.
Upgraded to RTX 4090 with no other changes: Broken ASW. Also tested with Rift-S and Quest 3 with same results.
Now AMD 7800x3D w/DDR5 and same RTX 4090: Working Improved ASW. With default settings, almost never shows up, but ASW is usually not needed, so it only activates momentarily under normal use. When forced on, it seems to have the aggressive artifacts something like 50% of the time.
Sorry for anyone who may have read this before my edit. I thought the problem was gone for good after the first few days of use!

Still hasn't been fixed. Will it ever get fixed Meta?

I don't think so. Meta doesn't care, Support doesn't care. So if no one at Support raises the problem to the dev team, they won't ever do anything about it.

This does indicate that even if Meta says so on the webpage, RTX 4000 cards are not supported - but might still work for most users.
When Meta suddenly announced support for series 40, there had been no software update to the desktop app for weeks and no new one arrived.
Seems that Meta may never have changed any code, but added some lackluster support anyway.
Do you still from time to time get an unsupported video card message in the Meta desktop app - or has Meta at least removed that error message?
This was one reason I never upgraded my RTX 3090, which still is the last and fastest video card I know has full Meta support. The RTX 3090 Ti may work too, but has some severe issues indicating that Meta never got it fully supported:
To my knowledge this issue never got fixed, and may be impossible to fix due to the hardware - but do correct me if I'm wrong 🙂

Yeah I don't think meta should state on their webpage that 40xx series cards are supported, I don't however get the unsupported video card on the desktop app.
Such a shame meta won't fix this problem because apart from the immersion breaking shimmering ASW is really good
